"Long time no see." He says, but this time not as snidely as he had the time before. He actually sounded nervous.
"Why are you here." Jake spits, while nonchalantly shifting me to be hidden behind him.
"I came to set your assumptions straight." He tells us while crossing his arms.
"What assumptions of ours are wrong?" I ask from behind Jake.
"I'm not the one who's a problem here."
Jake tenses even more than he already was.
"Then who is?" Jake asks after a few moments of silence.
"It doesn't matter." He tells us. Jake growls and shakes his head.
"Then why are you here?" I question frustratedly.
"Because I'm not the bad guy!" She shouts. Jake takes a step towards the door and I step in sync behind him.
"Don't you dare raise your voice at her."
"What are you doing here Micah?" I turn around and see Anna standing there looking almost more angry than Jake did.
"Anna?" Micah asks, totally shifting moods.
"Where's Jace?" I whisper, even though I knew all three people could hear me anyways.
"He thinks I'm in the bathroom. He's about to fall asleep anyways."
"So you found your mate?" Micah asks. It's like he's totally forgotten that me and Jake are here and that it's only Anna.
"Yes I did," I don't even think twice about her lie, "and if you so much as lay a finger on him or his family I will-" her ramblings are tense and fast before she's cut off.
"I'm not here for you Anna, although I can be if you want me to be."
Anna doesn't answer reply but purses her lips and glares at him. After a while he turns back to me and Jake.
"A few years ago I stepped down from clan leader. The-"
"Wait you guys just step-down? No fight till the death or-" Jake starts, but is cut off by Micah as quick as he had cut Micah off.
I was sitting on the counter and Jake was standing next to me. My head was on his shoulder and he reached over and grabbed my hand.
"I'll protect you. No matter what." He assures me.
I was glad, but not worried. Right now all I wanted was my pillow by my head and Jake by my side.
Anna left after she woke Jace up to say goodnight. Jace made his way to his room clumsily and tired. Jake watch me stumble towards the stairs at first before he scooped me up and carried me.
I got dressed as he drove his car two blocks over. Then he climbed back into my room and I fell asleep with him, which was the only way I could now.
"This is pointless!" I frustratedly groan as Anna backs the car out of my driveway.
School was finally out. I was officially entering the summer of my senior year and I was heading over to Jake's pack house.
Anna had driven over here, unknown to my brother, to help me pack and to drop me off at Jake's. Luckily everyone else was out, so we didn't have to sneak around too bad.
Ever since Micah had stopped by the second time, Jake had totally dropped all suspicions he had of Anna. Now they were working together to give me an around the clock babysitter.
"No it's not, it's actually much needed. If something happened to you Jake would never be the same."
