51 Who is the Pet

Rork POV

I force myself to focus on the king as he speaks about my future bride. Having her to control has me practically giddy. I’m honestly surprised how much he is sharing with members of the coven about his own daughter. Truly he can’t trust outsiders this much. It makes no sense.

I had heard he was a smart man, but the more he divulges about her powers and abilities, the

more I realize that can’t be true. Hell, he shouldn’t even be telling the coven that the Midnight Wolf exists. For the first time since he started to speak, I notice the queen out of the corner of my eye. She truly is beautiful.

She leans toward the guard and whispers something. Again, I wonder if she isn’t as loyal to the king as the rumors say. I watch as she places her hand gently on the king’s forearm, and he immediately turns his attention toward her. “I’m going to step out for a moment,” she says. He kisses her hand before he looks past her. I swear the guard growls. “Axel, accompany the queen,” he says. “That isn’t necessary, Ace. I’m simply using the bathroom,” she says. “Myra, will you show the queen to the bathrooms near my office,” Melinda asks

before I can offer.

“Of course, mistress,” Myra says, like the suck up she is. She is as strong as Melinda, yet she takes orders like a pet. My eyes follow them until they both step out of the room. My heart races and my leg bounces, but I have to wait. I can’t make my intentions obvious. I can’t just hop up and rush out of the room after what happened earlier. A few minutes later I excuse myself quietly using the same reason the queen did. I feel the king’s eyes on me as I make my way out of the room.

I’m not surprised when the guard follows behind me. I make my way down the hallway toward the bathroom that is located directly across from Melinda’s office. I expect to see Myra standing outside, but fortunately she must have shown the queen where the bathroom was and left. It’s like everything is falling into place perfectly. Before I reach the door, I whirl around to face the f**king guard who is now only a few feet away.

“Do you really think you can stop me if I intend to harm her?” His eyes darken, and he takes a step toward me. I quickly begin to chant and his body freezes mid stride. I smile as I take a step toward him. “It’s really pathetic how weak you wolves are. A few spoken words and you are helpless. You can’t even protect your queen. Don’t worry, though, I have no intentions of hurting her right now. In fact, when I’m done you’ll have no memory of this conversation or of seeing me take her.”

I speak the incantation to wipe his memory for the few minutes just as the door to the bathroom opens. When I turn, the queen growls. Before she can link her mate, I block her thoughts. “What have you done,” she asks, taking a step back from me. “Don’t worry, your majesty, he hasn’t been harmed. I need him alive, so when I return to the meeting they don’t suspect a thing.” I start to chant again and I watch her body stiffen. “Come with me, my new pet,” I say, and her body steps toward me. I can see the fear and confusion clearly in her eyes.

Excitement bubbles up inside me and I turn to lead her back to my room. As soon as we step inside, I lead her to the corner of the room. I lift the veil where I have Lanie hidden. “Olivia, stand,” I say, and Lanie responds. I place the real queen in the chair that Lanie just stood from. I smile when she sits perfectly still. I run my finger down her cheek and lean in close. “D on’t worry pet. I’ll be back as soon as I can.”
