Selena gave me the rest of the day off.

I headed to the parking lot to find my car, only to discover a luxury sedan blocking me in.

Luckily, there was a number on the windshield. When I called, a middle-aged man answered: "Need it moved? Give me a sec."

I waited, and ten minutes later, a figure appeared before me.

Jax Puth.

I froze, then dropped my gaze and tried to step aside.

Unexpectedly, Jax moved closer, invading my personal space.

"Something you need?" I asked quietly.

Jax dangled his key fob: "Weren't you the one who just called about a car?"

...But the voice on the phone definitely wasn't his.

Jax eyed my beat-up Beetle, which looked like a toy next to his expensive ride.

"Yeah, and I'm just being nice by giving her assistant a ride home. Got a problem with that?" Jax shot back.

He floored it, driving as recklessly as his mood. My head nearly hit the dashboard before I quickly buckled up.

Rain started pounding on the windshield. I caught glimpses of Jax in the rearview mirror.

He looked every bit the star he'd become—dressed in high-end black clothes, designer sunglasses hanging from his collar, expensive cologne filling the car.

Polished and distant—nothing like the stray I'd taken in from under that bridge all those years ago.
