Claudia hadn't run more than a few steps before a blinding beam of light shot from the direction of the airport entrance, stopping her in her tracks.

In the distance, she could see the Ferguson family's security team lined up, blocking the main gate. Her heart sank to the pit of her stomach.

No wonder York had been so calm about letting her out of the car.

He had arranged everything, knowing she had no chance of escape.

"Mr. Ferguson, get some rest," Claudia said, offering Hugh a perfunctory reply before decisively hanging up.

This was the first time she had seen York so utterly out of control.

He was a calculating and ruthless man, and she couldn't drag Hugh into this mess.

Numbly, Claudia turned around.

York was slowly getting out of the car.

Claudia quickly tried to explain. "It was Hawley. He was playing a game and accidentally dialed my number."

She regretted the words as soon as they left her mouth.

It was past one in the morning. What child would still be awake at this hour?

But York didn't call her out on the lie.

He slipped an arm around her waist, gently pulling her into his embrace.

Looking into her eyes, he asked, "You like Hugh's son that much?"

His voice was soft, but it sent a chill down her spine.

As soon as he spoke, he suddenly bent down and scooped her up into his arms.

York's strides were long and hurried. "No matter how much you like Hugh's son, he's still someone else's. Since you like kids so much, we'll have one of our own."

His words struck Claudia like a bolt of lightning. "Give up that fantasy, York! It's never going to happen between us!"

York said nothing, simply carrying her onto the aircraft.

Mark hurried over and whispered in York's ear, "Mr. Ferguson, cars from the Ferguson Mansion are approaching the airport from two directions. They're about to reach the main gate."
