York put down the file in his hands and met her gaze. "If you have something to say, just say it."

Marcia walked around the desk to his side.

She rested one hand on the edge of his desk, observing his expression up close. "I went to the hospital to pick up some medication for my grandmother today, and for some reason, I was inexplicably stopped by Assistant Mark."

York lowered his gaze, hiding the emotion in his eyes as he asked, "Did Assistant Mark say why he stopped you?"

Marcia smiled.

She looked around his office, her tone probing. "Mr. Ferguson, if you really want to get back together with your ex-wife, I could act as a peacemaker between you two."

York slowly rose to his feet, his expression turning cold.

He looked at her with a warning in his eyes. "You're overstepping, Miss Windsor."

Marcia shrugged. "Sorry, it was just a casual remark."

"Marcia," York said, "we've known each other in the business world for many years. You should know me. I've said I won't have a second marriage, and I mean it."
