York's hands, hanging by his sides, clenched into tight fists.

He stared into Claudia's hostile eyes, feeling as if he were about to shatter.

He fought back the moisture in his own eyes and said, word by word, "I did use them to convince you to come back to me. I did lie to them. The illness was fake, the medicine was fake, everything was fake!"

Claudia glanced at the group of people standing behind York and her expression turned cold. "You all heard him. He's a liar. The blood, the fainting—it was all an act. There's nothing wrong with him!"

After his parents left, Darleen stayed by York's side, worried. "York, were you really lying to everyone?"

"Just leave me alone for a bit," York said, his face a mask.

As soon as Darleen left, York turned away.

A mouthful of fresh blood escaped his lips, and Eddy happened to see it all.

Eddy saw York leaning against the wall, bent over in agony, and walked over to offer him a tissue.

York looked up and, seeing the person offering the tissue was Eddy, his eyes turned bloodshot.

His eyes welled with tears as he managed to choke out, "Eddy, don't tell your sister."

Eddy stuffed his hands in his pockets. "You and my sister are done. You're not part of the Watkins family anymore. I have no reason to tell her anything."
