Jessica sighed. "York brought all of this. I told your father and I that we shouldn't accept them, but he insisted on keeping them."

Since the items were already there and York had left, there was nothing more Claudia could say.

Claudia said to her parents, "Dad, Mom, living here is only temporary. I'm busy with work and don't have much free time, but you two should go look for a new place when you can. Something with a terrace or a yard would be nice."

Renting was just a temporary solution. Her brother would be in his final year of middle school next year, and she didn't want him living in a dormitory anymore. Plus, her parents were getting older. Her father enjoyed tending to his flowers and birds, and her mother liked having space to do laundry and sun-dry clothes. The house didn't need to be large, just a small yard for her parents' retirement would be enough.

Time flew by, and soon it was mid-October. Claudia was at work when her parents called to say they had found a house.

Claudia used her lunch break to go with them and see the place. It was a fully furnished, high-ceiling duplex on the ground floor with front and back yards, located in the city center. The price was also far below the market rate.

Believing that if something seems too good to be true, it probably is, Claudia secretly pulled her parents out of the sales office. "Dad, Mom, there must be something wrong with this house. We absolutely can't buy it."

Jessica tutted. "This is the best unit in the complex. It's fully furnished and has never been lived in. What could be wrong with it? Don't talk nonsense."

Claudia held her ground. "You get what you pay for. I've heard that pre-owned homes priced so far below market value aren't 'clean' inside."

"You silly girl!" Felix poked his daughter on the forehead. "York got us an inside price from the developer!"
