York walked over to his grandfather.
“Grandfather,” he explained, “I wasn’t the one who brought her back.”
He then looked at his parents. “Mom, Dad, you can rest assured, I will not have any further contact with that woman.”
Sewell snorted. “You’d better mean it.”
Wendy was unconvinced. “The moment she returned to the country, she found the hotel where you and Claudia were celebrating. If you didn’t tell her, how did she find it?”
York lowered his eyes, hiding the emotions within them.
He was one hundred percent certain that Ann’s appearance at the party was Claudia’s doing.
The day Claudia had asked him to go to the seafood market with her… as soon as he saw Ann’s brother and sister-in-law, he knew what Claudia was planning.
He had assumed that Ann was being monitored by his grandfather’s people abroad and couldn’t easily return, so he hadn’t paid it much mind.
He never expected that Ann would manage to evade her watchers.
He knew what his family was worried about.
But he couldn’t explain to them that both he and Claudia had memories of their past lives, that they were both reborn.
He certainly couldn’t tell his family that it was Claudia who wanted to set him up with Ann, who had deliberately leaked their location to Ann’s relatives, indirectly causing Ann to return to the country.
He promised, “You can all be at ease. My past feelings don’t represent my feelings now. Even if I stay single for the rest of my life, I will never consider that woman, Ann.”
Old Mr. Ferguson let out a quiet sigh of relief. “York, giving you my fifteen percent stake was a sign of my approval. You are the sole heir to the Ferguson family. Ann was never good enough for you, and she’s even less so now. You cannot be foolish when it comes to marriage.”
“If you can handle that Ann woman, I won’t interfere in your business with Claudia anymore.”
After saying his piece, the old man stood up and left.
York looked down, silent.
