Everyone turned to look at Donovan at that moment. Donovan noticed the look in Cedric's eyes and cursed at Cedric in his heart. He also cursed at Blake for deliberately pointing it out.
He quickly replied, "He's on the way. Something came up and delayed him a little."
Mia replied, "He always said that Noelle's the most important person there is, and yet he's even late to her funeral?! Is being two-faced and hypocritical something that runs in your family?"
Donovan was unable to argue back against Mia, as he knew that she was simply stating the truth.
Frank tried to smooth things over. "Carl's situation is rather different, but I'm sure he cares about Noelle."
Mia replied, "Caring about someone isn't about what you say about them, but what you do for them. You Liddells only ever talk about how much you love her, but you do nothing when it comes down to it."
She was thoroughly disgusted by the Liddells ever since she found out that it was Carl who had taken Noelle away. She had been holding in her anger all along. She could very well explode at any given moment.
Carl's lateness was the perfect excuse for her to let out her anger.
Frank was left speechless for a moment. He then turned to Donovan and said, "Donovan, you need to talk to Carl about this as well once he gets here. Just what kind of work could be more important than Noelle? It's frankly outrageous."
Donovan did not dare to retort after being harshly scolded. He also felt rather guilty after all. Fortunately, it did not take Carl too long to arrive.
Donovan walked up to the latecomer and said, "You're finally here. Everyone's got a bone to pick with you."
Carl remained as calm as ever. "Whatever. I don't care about what others think."
Mia could no longer hold it in. "Yeah, we can tell. You acted like Noelle meant the world to you back then, and now you're late to her funeral of all things. Don't you feel even a little bit guilty?"
Carl offered up flowers and replied calmly. "No."
Seeing how composed he was made Mia extremely uncomfortable. She could not believe just how good he was at keeping up with the act.
