“It's ready…”

I jumped to my feet at that announcement and was out of the door in seconds. He followed with his bag and we walked down to my car. Halfway through the drive he broke the silence.

“Are you going to tell me why you want to transfer the property?”

“Soon, James. I need you to be there with everyone when I tell them…” I gave him a quick glance then fixed my eyes back on the road.

There was this sense of calm that he had and always carried. I knew I looked like a maniac about now but there wasn't a trace of panic in his eyes or features at all.

“Dom, I swear if you don't talk I'll rip your throat out…” Alex snapped at me. James and I had arrived the mansion moments ago and I called everyone out for a talk.

“Okay so Nathan called me over to talk…” I made an air quote at the word talk as I paced. Raina stiffened where she sat.

“What did he want?” My sister scowled in her spot. Sensing her disdain for the man, Alex wrapped his arm over her shoulder.

“You…” I blurted and her eyes widened. Alex's followed soon after that. He jumped on his feet, about to protest but I lifted a finger stopping him. “...he wants you two to get divorced…again. He wants you to marry him instead and he will help us take out his uncle…”

Alex was a mixture of rage and calm. It was a scray sight to behold. “Please tell me you didn't agree to this man…”

Of course not! What did he take me for?

I scowled at him this time, before averting my gaze to meet Raina's. “Which is why he…” I pointed at the family lawyer who was seated like a chicken that had been hosed down with water. “...is here. I had a thought. Nathan is hell bent on making you his because of the estate, right…” Raina was on the edge of the couch now, attention glued to me. “...why don't we distribute it? That way he won't get shit even if he pulls something off again…”

It took a few heartbeats before she spoke, letting what I had just said sink it. “You mean…”

“Yes, Raina. I didn't agree to you two getting a divorce but what if we make it look like so. He might insist on the divorce happening before he helps, whatever the fuck it is but we can be steps ahead of him this time.”

I drew in a deep breath from how much I had been speaking. Alex got up on his feet and began pacing the living room.

“I don't like this. I don't like any of this shit…” he stopped for a while and turned to face me. “That bastard has always been two steps ahead of us, Dom. What makes you think he hasn't seen this move already?”
