Chapter 38

The moment I step out of that damn room, I feel like punching a wall. My boots hit the wooden floor with heavy thuds as I stalk down the hallway.

Her scent–Kali–still clings to me like a curse I can’t shake off. My wolf growls low inside me, agitated and restless.

She said date

Facking date—like we’re humans in some cheesy goddamn romance novel. Like I’m a lovesick idiot chasing fairy tales, or worse, just some guy she met in a damn coffee shop. Not the male the moon goddess made for her.

Fuck.

Trake a hand through my hair, my jaw clenched so tight it aches. If my Beta hadn’t mind linked me when he did, I swear–I would’ve pinned her against that door and tasted her sinful lips until she remembered exactly who the hell I am. I would’ve silenced every doubt with my mouth, my tongue, my teeth -until every excuse she keeps using to push me away vanishes.

But no. She wants slow. She wants trust.

If only Khaos hadn’t interrupted-

And now that I think about it… she looked terrified. Fragile. The second I mentioned him, she froze. Like her soul slipped right out of her body. She lied–I know she did. But whatever happened, she’s not ready to talk about it.

Still… it eats at me. What the fuck happened between her and Khaos?

I reach the front door and grip the handle, needing to get the hell out. To breathe. Let the cold air clear my head before I say or do something I’ll regret.

But then-

“Jack, where do you think you’re going without giving me your final decision?”

That voice.

I exhale slowly through my nose, my shoulders stiffening as I turn around.

“Do I stay? Or do you really want to lose your mate’s head?” Celestia finishes sweetly, her tone as venomous as it is smug.

She doesn’t even bother to rise fully from the couch–just leans back, sipping from a glass no one offered her, like she owns the damn place.

My patience snaps.

I pinch the bridge of my nose, counting to three before I respond, trying to keep my wolf from pushing forward.

“First of all,” I growl, lifting my eyes to hers, “it’s Alpha Jack to you. Show some fucking respect.”

She raises a brow, lips twitching in amusement.

“And second,” I continue coldly, “enough with the threats. You and I both know I’m not afraid of your father. And no one–no one–is touching a hair on my mate’s head.”

I step toward her until I’m towering over where she lounges, forcing her to tilt her head back to look at me.

“You want to stay? Fine. You’ve got one month. And then you get the fuck out of my house. Without me asking again.”

Celestia smirks like she’s already won.

“You should be thanking me, Jack,” she says as she slowly rises, brushing invisible dust from her clothes. “After all, I am bringing you and your little wolf

close: Until she rejects you, of course.” Her grin stretches. “I mean… ‘Date‘? Seriously? Like humans? That’s pathetic. How humiliating.”

My eyes narrow, heart hammering in my chest—not with anger, but something far colder..

She heard us.

Of course she did. Fucking werewolf senses.

I make a mental note to have the room soundproofed by morning. If she wants to spy, she’ll have to work harder for it.

“Your room’s in the attic,” I say flatly as I turn toward the door. “Make yourself comfortable, Your Royal Highness.”

Her face twists in outrage.

“What? Are you fucking kidding me? How do you expect a queen like me to sleep in some dusty attic?

1stop at the door and glance over my shoulder, letting a slow smirk pull at my lips.

“This house was built for me and my mate. Not for some desperate, power–hungry princess. There’s no extra room.” I shrug. “If you don’t like the attic, feel free to go back to your fancy castle and sleep in silk sheets.”

She scoffs, stepping closer with a glare.

“Weren’t you planning for pups, Jack? You mean to tell me you didn’t plan an extra room for them?”

I roll my eyes and drag the door open.

“Not yet,” I say coolly over my shoulder. “I wanted to enjoy my mate first. Not that it’s any of your business.”

Her hiss is sharp, but I’m done playing nice.

“Fine,” she spits. “I’ll stay in one of your other mansions then. This little house doesn’t suit a future queen like me anyway.”

I don’t bother responding. Not a single word. I just walk out, slamming the door behind me, muttering curses under my breath.

The only damn reason I’m letting her stay is simple—I want Kali to burn.

Let her see another woman breathing down my neck, flaunting herself like she has a claim. Let her wolf rage at the sight. Because when that happens?

She’ll come to me willingly–desperate to claim me before someone else does. She’ll beg for my mark. She’ll give me hers. And when that moment comes, I’ll finally show her just how much I’ve been holding back.

Until then?

Let Celestia parade around with her fake royalty bullshit.

A smirk pulls at my lips as I step into the woods. The trees sway gently under the breeze, and the smell of damp earth calms the storm brewing in my

chest.

It doesn’t take long before the pack building comes into view through the trees–and the second I step out of the cover of the woods, my smirk vanishes.

The place is crawling with guards. Not mine. Royal ones.

They’re standing like polished statues, dressed in their fancy armor with that arrogant air they all carry like perfume. But what makes me straighten my spine with pride is the way my warriors stand right beside them–silent, alert, unmoved. Not one of them flinches. Not one backs down. They look the royals in the eye like equals.
