Edward dropped all pretense: “In the Vargan household, you’d better defer to Helena. She may be marrying Dennis, but Dennis is the one running things now. You should treat her with absolute respect.”

Unable to hold back, I asked directly: “Between Helena and me, who is actually your biological daughter?”

Edward’s face went pale, panic flashing in his eyes as if he thought I’d discovered something.

I pressed further: “Why am I, your biological daughter, worth less than a stepdaughter? If you hate me this much, why did you let me be born in the first place?”

His tense nerves finally relaxed slightly as he let out a cold, mocking laugh: “If it weren’t for your mother,

“Did you get everything? She didn’t give you a hard time, did she?” He walked over to me.

I was slightly taken aback, then shook my head: “No. Helena and her father are in the car behind us.”

Since Helena was going to be Dennis’s wife, I naturally wouldn’t badmouth her in front of him.

When Dennis heard that Helena hadn’t returned with me, his expression darkened and he stepped closer.

He lowered his voice: “If you’re having second thoughts, you can still tell me.”
