It didn’t surprise Cynthia that Dominic had managed to get his hands on this dress ahead of time. What did catch her off guard, though, was that he’d gone to all this trouble just so he could bring her to the Raynes’ engagement party.

With a soft press of her red lips, Cynthia glanced sideways at the man beside her, masking the flicker of emotion in her eyes as she spoke quietly.

“There’s really no need to get so dressed up…”

After all, it was the Raynes’ engagement party. She only meant to keep Juliet company, to make sure she wasn’t left alone during the event.

Dominic didn’t wait for her to finish. He cut her off with a cool, dismissive tone.

“It’s just a dress. How is that being ‘dressed up’? If you think this is extravagant, you must’ve been living pretty frugally during those years in Cloudcrest City.”

Cynthia bit back a frustrated sigh.

She really wanted to clamp a hand over Dominic’s mouth and make him stop talking.

She knew all too well how austere her years with Benedict had been.

“Well, thank you for letting me feel luxurious for a change,” she gritted out between her teeth.

Dominic shot her a sidelong glance, his reply as infuriating as ever.

“You’re welcome.”

Vernon, standing off to the side, listened to their banter with a faint smile.

To him, it all sounded like playful teasing between a young couple.

Who would have guessed that the famously stoic, cold Dominic could be this way with someone?

Once the staff had delivered the dress to the fitting room, a polite attendant approached Cynthia.

“Miss Tremaine, if you’d like to come this way, please.”

Cynthia gave a slight nod, then turned to Dominic with polite formality.
