It wasn’t until he stopped in front of the wardrobe, turned to her, and said in a low voice, “Are you planning to help me change?” that she snapped back to reality.

Her cheeks burned as she hurried out of his room, pulling the door shut behind her for good measure.

She waited quietly outside, forcing herself to calm down. After all, this was just speculation on her part. If Dominic wasn’t planning to bring Tremaine Holdings onboard, she’d just gotten herself worked up for nothing.

When Dominic emerged, Cynthia was still standing by his doorway, lost in thought. She looked up as he stepped out, now dressed in a black tracksuit, and for a moment, something flickered in her eyes—something like nostalgia and a sharp pang in her chest.

Dominic nodded. “Let’s go.”

He caught the brief glimmer in her eyes—a mixture of hope and determination—but before he could pin it down, she’d already composed herself, hiding her eagerness beneath a layer of polite restraint.

“It’s a small project,” Dominic said, almost as a warning. “Not much money in it.”

He wanted to set her expectations low, so she wouldn’t be disappointed when they arrived.

Cynthia responded softly, “In this economy, any project that turns a profit is a good one.”
