Gentry glanced at Judd, a flicker of sympathy in his eyes. He clapped him on the shoulder. "What a mess. I'm sure Dr. Sterling was just forced to say that."

His words only seemed to make Judd's expression colder. He stepped into the crowd. "I'm gone for five minutes, and this happens?"

At the sound of his voice, Charlotte froze, but she didn't try to explain. This was about her and Judd. She was still married, that was a fact, but they hadn't crossed any lines. And Old Mr. Carstairs was her mentor; even if she did have feelings for Judd, she could never get past that.

Gentry, however, was grinning. He looked at the pregnant woman on the floor, snatched the photo from her hand, and said, "Well, well, if it isn't a picture of Dr. Sterling. I guess these days, people just show up at hospitals with a doctor's photo and try to extort money."

"Who are you calling an extortionist?" the woman shrieked, scrambling to her feet. "I'm here to get justice for my husband! This doctor is a social-climbing adulteress who seduced Mr. Carstairs and got my husband fired!"

"And what does your husband being fired have to do with whether she's seducing Mr. Carstairs?" Gentry shot back.

The woman was speechless for a moment. "Who do you think you are, sticking your nose where it doesn't belong? I'll have you reported!"

"Professor Carstairs, did you hear that? She's going to report me!" Gentry said, turning to Judd. "This is about your reputation, and Dr. Sterling's."

*Carstairs.*

The woman's eyes widened.

Judd's face was grim. "The only employees recently dismissed from the Carstairs household were Vickie and a Driver Bridgewater. Are you his wife?"

"I… yes… I'm just here to find out what happened…"
