She pulled a photo of Kerwin from her purse. Because Kerwin’s eyes bore a striking resemblance to Marlon’s, Grandma Edith and Marlon recognized him instantly as one of the Kellers.

Marlon furrowed his brow, itching for a cigarette.

Maggie sensed he was starting to recall something.

“You were disgusted by your dad’s son from another woman, as was Grandma Edith. It was a stain on your dad’s reputation, and on your parents’ love. When I told you that the illegitimate child went to the same high school as me, you couldn’t wait to act. That child was Kerwin—Athena’s favorite person at the time. Don’t you think it’s suspicious how Athena suddenly became a Keller? Maybe you didn’t know how deeply she felt for Kerwin. She would’ve done anything for him, even risk her own life. Could it be that she learned the truth and got close to you with a plan, crafting some story about being the long-lost daughter?”

As Maggie spoke, she smiled, especially noticing the change in Marlon’s expression, feeling a sense of satisfaction.
