Debra frowned. "Didn't Mr. Osborne ever get a doctor for her?"

"He did," the maid sighed. "But the doctor said it's just a matter of managing it with medicine. No guarantees that she'd get better or not. It's been over ten years now, and the chance of recovery is slim."

Debra went quiet for a moment.

From what she'd seen of Yvette's behavior earlier, Debra couldn't shake the feeling that her mental state was tied to when Andrew lost his legs years ago.

Marion grabbed her hand and said softly, "Stop overthinking it. We've got bigger fish to fry today."

Debra turned back to the maid. "Oh, right. Were you here the night before last when Randy and Erica came back?"

"I was," the maid replied excitedly. "He brought her back to talk about marriage stuff. Too bad his father wasn't home that day. Otherwise, it'd have been a done deal right."

Debra shifted gears. "But it seems like your master isn't too keen on Erica. Your lady, though, likes her. If he doesn't agree, I'm afraid she can't marry Randy."

The maid shrugged. "Well, our master doesn't meddle much in Mr. Randy Osborne's business, especially not his marriage. But our lady adores Erica. She even gave her the family heirloom. It's pretty much set in stone."

"Really?" Debra smacked her forehead. "Man, I'm such an idiot, asking dumb questions."
