Marion jumped up, grabbing her arm. "Take it slow. I'll help you upstairs."

Solomon stirred, then perked up as the emotionless storyteller left. His eyes sparkled with relief.

"Pretty fancy setup," William said, eyeing the pricey medical gear Jordan had prepared for Debra and Erica. "Beats Central Hospital hands down."

He itched to fiddle with the machines.

"Quit drooling over them," Jordan said. "Check on the baby first."

"Oh, right." William snapped to it, pulling out his stethoscope.

After a quick listen, he nodded. "Let's get an X-ray."

Debra knew the drill better than he did. Once it was done, William studied the film and grinned, "Looks good. The baby is very healthy."

Debra squinted at him. The way he held the X-ray wasn't so obstetric.

"You sure you know what you're looking at?"

"Totally."

"You're holding it upside down."

William coughed, masking his flub. "Trust me, my skills are next-level. I can read it anyway."

Jordan, watching from the doorway, cut in. "Alright, the kid's safe. That's what matters. It's almost 4:30. Debra needs her walk."

He stepped in and snatched the X-ray from William's hand. "Come on, I'll set you up with a room."

"I'd never," William swore, puffing up. "I might slip on other craps, but this? My lips are sealed."

Andrew had warned him about this. It was no joke.

"Good. Go on."

"What about the X-ray?"

"I'll send it to Andrew."

Jordan walked off with the film.

William nodded, relieved to dodge some work. Then he froze. "Wait, where's my room?"
