"What do you think?" Liza sulked.

"Guy's no good?" Garland raised a brow. "No way. I checked him out. He is quite solid. Did your high standards scare him off?"

"I'm still young. Why do I need a blind date?" Liza protested. "He is already out of college and too old for me."

"Age doesn't matter. He's hot, isn't he?" Garland shrugged. "Mom and Dad are off traveling. Nobody's here to back you up. I'm half-useless, and Fermin is swamped. Deal with it yourself."

As he turned back to his cooking, Liza grabbed him. "No way. I told him I'm in, and we're setting a date soon."

Garland's jaw dropped. "What? You agreed?"

"Didn't you say it's my call? What's the big deal?"

"I... It was just a meet-and-greet. Why'd you lock it in? Scared you'll end up an old maid?"

A burning smell hit, and he waved her off. "Go make Fermin deal with the parents. I'm not cleaning up your mess."

He bolted to the kitchen to put out the fire. "Verna, it's on fire! Grab the extinguisher!"

"Coming!" Verna rushed down, and the two fumbled to douse the flames.

Liza pouted and headed upstairs.

Fermin was in his study, surrounded by his secretaries.

She slipped in, but he didn't look up.
