Chapter Twenty Seven

"But dad… I can't marry her. We can't do this… It’s... It’s..." He stammers, not knowing what to say.

"Enough, Ahmed! I agreed to your choice and now you agree to mine! We’re done with her, and Sahaan will be your bride instead. Sahaan is the bride I chose for you since you did not choose a good bride for yourself. That’s final." His grandmother says in a stern voice.

Ahmed is even more shocked. How does she have everyone wrapped around her finger? No one listens to him. How can they decide his marriage with her?!

"You can leave! Go and sleep. You have to get up early tomorrow.” Yaqub firmly states.

Ahmed exits the rooms in fury.

When Sahaan woke up, she was sandwiched between the two girls. Their arms and legs are carelessly all over Sahaan as if she is their cuddly bear. She smiles, looking at her cousins and their comical expressions while being asleep. She gently moves them away from herself. When she looks at the clock, the time shocks her! How can she wake up so late? It’s ten!

Sahaan is still unaware that she will be married to Ahmed later today. She’s so tensed just by thinking of whom Ahmed is going to marry since Tanzeen is gone. She looks down at her hands. The henna gave her a really dark color! She smiles gently, staring at the beautiful patterns and inhaling the smell of it.

The darker the henna, the better the bride’s future. But she’s not a bride. Sahaan doesn’t let that ruin her mood. And what she doesn’t know is that she is the bride! She freshens up and goes downstairs to her grandmother’s room.

Sahaan stands there in shock. Ahmed agreed? He’s fine with marrying her? How can that be?

Her mother takes her to her room.

"Mom, I'm scared… His mother." Sahaan says worriedly, holding her mother's hand. Her aunt would never agree! And Ayesha will do anything to ruin her life.

"My dear, don't worry. Your grandma is with you! She’ll talk to her. And as long as I’m with you, I won’t let anyone harm you.” The mother consoles her daughter.
