Zane looked at the abbot, Simeon Stillward, and didn't say a word.

He and Shannon were about to follow Simeon inside when Alex, realizing that no one was paying him any attention, suddenly panicked. He blurted out, "Zane, stop right there!"

He'd wanted to call out to Shannon, but memories of his time trapped in a tortoise's body stopped him. While calling out to her wouldn't work, he had no reservations about yelling at his son, Zane.

Zane paused and turned to look at Alex, silently waiting for him to speak.

Simeon glanced at Zane before looking at Alex. Then, he suddenly asked, "Are you a devotee of our monastery, here for spiritual practice?"

Hearing the question, Alex was too embarrassed to confess that he wanted to stop his practices in front of the two younger ones. So, he gritted his teeth and replied, "I'm here to be a monk, Mr. Stillward."

Simeon turned to look at one of the accompanying monks responsible for overseeing devotees in short-term practices. The latter pressed his lips in a tight line, which could be taken as a tacit confirmation, but his eyes held a deeper meaning.

Most people wouldn't catch it, but Simeon did. It was a look that implied Alex lacked true devotion, and three to five days of spiritual practice was probably the most he could last.

Simeon understood, but instead of saying it aloud, he replied, "Time spent in cultivation without results doesn't mean your heart isn't sincere. Your sacred affinity may not be sufficient, so there's no need to rush a decision about whether or not to fully ordain."

After a short pause, he suddenly turned to look at Zane. "This benefactor here, however, seems to have a rather profound sacred affinity. Would you consider spending some time here in cultivation?"

Zane hadn't spoken a word since the moment they arrived. Now slightly caught off guard by Simeon's sudden address, he pulled out his phone and typed a response.

"Thank you, Mr. Stillward, but I do not intend to cultivate."

Instead of being offended by the robotic voice from his phone, Simeon's eyes lit up.

"You have unique astrological houses and have mastered silent meditation, so you have an existing strong affinity with Zenyoism. If you join Zenyoism, it would benefit your lifespan greatly."

Since this concerned Zane's future, Shannon didn't immediately respond. Like Simeon said, joining Zenyoism sure could prolong Zane's lifespan.

But she'd never brought it up, partly because she didn't know much about Zenyoism, and partly because she'd never sensed any genuine interest in Zenyoism from Zane.

Sure enough, Zane seemed completely unmoved by Simeon's words. But when Alex spoke, Zane frowned ever so lightly and lowered his head to type his reply.

Suddenly, a loud shout rang out from behind them. "Zane's not becoming a monk!"

Hank appeared out of nowhere and rushed over in a panic. Then, he grabbed Zane's arm and pulled him away from Alex and Simeon.

His curiosity was piqued after seeing Shannon and Zane leave alone. Too embarrassed to ask to come along, he'd decided to follow the two in secret.
