A long while later, Mom spoke in a deeply aggrieved tone. "How could you say that, Lianne? Have I not treated you well?"

She genuinely believed she had given Julianne everything and had even treated her better than herself. There were many luxury items that Mom couldn't bear to buy for herself. However, she had bought them all for Julianne.

She had done everything she could for Julianne. And yet, Julianne had said that being adopted by her was her life's greatest misfortune. This made Mom truly very upset and aggrieved.

"Don't give me that bullshit! You knew Emilia wouldn't let me off the hook. If you truly cared about me, then why didn't you get rid of her? If you had done that, I never would've ended up like this!" Julianne retorted.

She believed that if Mom genuinely cherished her and loved her more than me, she would've done anything to eliminate me—especially when Mom knew I wasn't going to let her go.

Julianne also felt that, for her sake, Mom would've eliminated me no matter the cost. For her, Mom would've removed the biggest threat in her life if she truly cared that much, instead of just proclaiming it verbally.

Mom already had a skewed and unreasonable sense of logic. But even she was floored by what Julianne had said. Her eyes even widened in disbelief.

She never thought Julianne could say something so horrifying. Never mind that I was her biological daughter, whom she carried for nine months and gave birth to with great pain. Even if she sometimes claimed she wanted to strangle me, she had never actually considered going through with it.

And besides, murder was illegal. It was an act one paid for with one's life. Mom had been so good to Julianne. Yet, Julianne actually expected her to ruin her life.

"No. You only did those things because I'm the daughter of the man you could never have. You adopted me and took good care of me just to fulfill your own twisted desire! Well, I've helped you satisfy it. So, why should I be grateful to you? Shouldn't you be grateful to me instead?" she shot back.

Julianne spoke her warped reasoning with such a justified tone that she left Mom, the expert on twisted logic, utterly speechless.

Mom's chest heaved heavily from uncontrollable rage. It took her a long while before she finally recovered enough to speak. "If it was really just for myself, would I still be running around for you like this? Would I really be begging everyone I can for help given your dire situation?"

Julianne scoffed coldly. "You doing all that just proves my point even more. You aren't doing it for me. You're just in denial that I'm not the biological daughter of your lost love and have snapped!"
