Romina said a bit glumly, “Merissa and I just confirmed our relationship, so we need to date properly. We don’t want to get married too soon.” 

After a pause, she added, “The earliest we can get married is during the Lunar New Year holiday.” 
“I don’t want to get married in just these two months.” 
If she weren’t turning 30 after the Lunar New Year, and her parents and grandfather weren’t anxious, Romina would have preferred dating Merissa for two years before getting married. 
“Your grandfather means you can get married before the Lunar New Year, so pick a good date early.” 
 
  
“Mom, that’s too hasty! I haven’t even been to Merissa’s house, or even met his parents.”
“You’re already picking a date? How desperate are you to marry me off?” 
Mrs. Lan laughed. “If you were marrying someone else, my parents might want to keep you, but if you marry Merissa, they really can’t wait to marry you off.” 
“There are a lot of women who admire Merissa, but after the initial passion fades, there’s no guarantee he’ll change.” 
Although Mrs. Lan believed Merissa wouldn’t change his mind, she still tried to persuade her daughter with this, leaving her feeling a sense of crisis. 
“Mom, if he changes his mind, he will still change his mind even if I marry him. If he doesn’t change his mind, then it doesn’t matter if we get married early or late.”

“Merissa accompanied you on your business trip. You lived together for the past ten days…” 
“Stop, Mom. He and I were just staying in the same hotel, not living together. You make it sound like Merissa and I were living together. Mom, I’m your biological daughter. Aren’t you afraid people will misunderstand your daughter if you say that?” 
“Are you ruining your daughter’s reputation? I don’t know what you’re so anxious about. Merissa is mine, and he can’t get away.”

Romina continued, “Mom, I’m in love now. You don’t have to worry about my life events anymore. When I want to get married, I’ll tell Mom and Dad.” 
She would make her own decisions about this major life event, but she would also let the elders in her family know.

She knew her grandfather was most anxious about her and her brother’s marriage. 
Her siblings weren’t getting married, and neither were her cousins of marriageable age.

Many of her cousins were only a year or two younger than her, making them no longer considered young. 
Many people her age had two children.
