The deeper Nightbrook sank into the panic of an upcoming war, the busier Rohan’s life became. Things had grown so difficult that he barely had the free time he once held in his hands.

It had finally been confirmed that Aragonia had joined hands with Bimmerville, and the vampire king was not only furious but shaken by the news. For years, he had tried to avoid war with Bimmerville by sending them treasures that made their land one of the richest. With Aragonia, he had signed a peace treaty to avoid any future conflict. But it seemed there was no way out of it now, as the humans had turned against them.

What worried the vampire king the most was the fact that the humans had weapons and other things capable of attacking his lands. Even if they didn’t succeed in killing every single vampire, they could still wipe out almost all of them. Four kingdoms against one wasn’t something to be taken lightly, and though the vampires had the Gaggers, it wasn’t a guarantee they would win this big war.

It was during that wave of anger that the king demanded for Isabelle Dagon to be brought to the royal castle immediately, to be kept a captive for the contract the humans had gone against.

However, knowing that it wasn’t the real Isabelle living as Rohan’s wife, the demon king, who had ears and eyes everywhere, acted quickly, stepping into things and appearing before the vampire king, who had just given the orders to one of the Gaggers.

"Hello. We finally meet again, Zion," the demon king said with a smile from the shadows of the vampire king’s chamber.

"What do you want from me this time?" King Zion asked with a frown. He was already burdened with too many problems to waste his energy on a being who blended so easily with the darkness.

"More like how can I assist you in your time of need," the demon king drawled. "I don’t want anything from you, but you will want something from me."

King Zion’s eyes narrowed with interest. "You can help me?"

Changing the vampire king’s mind about taking Isabelle was easy for the demon king, who had once saved Zion’s life from Rohan. It didn’t take much persuasion before the king agreed not to take the human as a hostage.

"And what will I get in return for this favor?" King Zion asked.

"My help," the demon king replied smoothly.

He promised to aid the vampire king in winning the coming war, on one condition: the woman would be left to him. Since the vampires had discovered that the humans planned to attack them, Zion agreed that launching their attack ahead of time was the only way to protect their kind. And with the demon king’s promise of help, and even showing him evidence that he had the powers to help them, the deal was sealed.

In truth, the demon king had no intention of helping in a war that had nothing to do with his own realm, but he couldn’t let them harm the woman serving him by carrying his son’s offspring. Until Cordelia was done with what they had agreed upon in their contract, no one would touch a hair on her head in that form.

Soon, word reached Rohan, who was constantly lingering in the royal castle, that his wife might be dragged into the war. But for some reason, the king had changed his mind and ordered to let her be.
