“No need, just leave me alone.”

“Alright, alright.” The manager quickly backed off.

Scarlett slumped back into her seat and grabbed a bottle of liquor, ready to drown her guilt.

Steven snatched the bottle out of her hand. “What are you doing?”

“Leave me alone! This is all my fault,” she muttered, still consumed by self-blame.

The fear from earlier lingered, and now she teetered between anxiety and drunkenness, reaching again for the bottle.

Scarlett’s cheeks were flushed, her eyes hazy as she gazed longingly at the drink. She stretched her hand toward Steven, trying to wrestle it back.

Holding the bottle out of her reach, Steven stared at the empty bottles on the table, dumbfounded. “You’ve already had so much. That’s enough!”

“Don’t tell me what to do!” She shoved Steven aside and called out to a passing server. “Bring me two more bottles!”

Steven followed close behind, immediately countering, “Ignore her. She’s drunk—don’t bring anything.”

Scarlett, lost in her haze, was trying to cling to any scraps of clarity, but the pounding music only made her head spin.

“It’s alright, Scarlett,” Steven said, trying to soothe her. “Miss Sanders won’t blame you.”

“It’s my fault! Why did I take her to that horrible man?” Scarlett burst into tears.

She grabbed another bottle and tried to chug it, but Steven intercepted it again. “Do you really need to drink? Fine, I’ll drink with you!”

He tilted the bottle back and gulped half of it down in one go, slamming the bottle onto the table and letting out a loud belch.

Scarlett grabbed the same bottle and downed the remaining half.

Steven signaled to the bartender and ordered two more bottles, taking one and guzzling it down immediately. “I’m going to get drunk tonight!”

His cheeks turned bright red, and he looked visibly dazed.

Her eyes widened in disbelief. Steven?! How could it be him?

She glanced around and froze. They were lying in the same bed.

She quickly pulled back the blanket, horrified to find herself completely naked. To make matters worse, faint love marks were visible all over her skin.

Panic took hold of her. She had never experienced a hangover before, and now her first time drinking too much had led to... this? And with Steven, of all people—the one person she couldn’t stand!

She clamped her hands over her mouth, trying not to scream. Her memory of last night was blank. The only fragment she could recall was Steven stepping in to save her when someone had tried to take advantage of her.

Scarlett cautiously sat up, her movements careful and quiet. Her clothes were scattered all over the floor. She gathered them up and tiptoed into the bathroom. After hastily putting her clothes back on, she left without a word.

As the sun climbed higher in the sky, its piercing rays filtered through the window, stinging Steven’s eyes. He squinted against the brightness and groaned, sitting up in bed.

His head throbbed with a dull, persistent ache.
