"Stop!" Scarlett noticed something was wrong.

She dipped her spoon in the soup and tasted it.

"It's so salty!" She quickly gulped down some water.

Angrily throwing down her spoon, she said, "Sarah, Steven's gone too far."

Sarah couldn't help but smile. "Don't drink any more."

The rest of the dinner proceeded normally, with Steven maintaining a polite, professional smile. On the way home, Scarlett's eyes reflected unmistakable disappointment.

"See? I told you he doesn't like me."

Sarah consoled her, "Don't rush to conclusions. Maybe he hasn't processed it yet, or it was too much for him to handle."

Scarlett went home distracted. After getting ready for bed, she lay there for a long time, thinking about what had happened at the bar that night.

Checking her phone, it was already eleven. Just as she closed her eyes to sleep, her phone rang.

The name on the screen nearly made her drop her phone - it was Steven.

She rushed to answer but accidentally hung up in her nervousness. Her heart skipped a beat at the disconnect tone, but it rang again immediately. This time she answered carefully.

"What are you doing now?”

His voice was urgent through the phone. "Come downstairs," Steven said hastily, then hung up.

Scarlett looked out her window - Steven was standing below her building.

Heart racing, she hurried down in her pajamas.

Steven was leaning against his car, smoking, the smoke curling around his fingers before dispersing.

They stood in unusual silence until Scarlett finally broke it. "Why are you here?"

"Was that guy tonight your boyfriend?" he asked harshly.

"Why?"

"Break up with him right now," Steven said impatiently.

Remembering Sarah's words, Scarlett challenged, "You think I'll break up just because you say so? On what grounds?"

Steven grabbed her wrist firmly and said seriously, "On the grounds that I'm your boyfriend. We slept together."

"You!" Scarlett's face flushed red - she couldn't believe he'd just said it outright. "How dare you!"

She yanked her hand away and turned to leave.

Steven stepped in front of her, blocking her path. "What's there to be embarrassed about? We've slept together."

If they'd already been intimate, why was she dating someone else?

Steven's blood boiled just thinking about that man from tonight.
