Vivian felt a deep sense of disappointment. Was this what things had come to between her and Zachary?

“I don’t know yet,” Zachary replied coldly. “But I’ll find out who’s behind it.”

Vivian quickly unfolded the small table and took out the soup from the thermos.

“Try it. I made it myself.” A faint blush appeared on her cheeks.

Remembering his grandfather’s words, Zachary didn’t refuse. He took a sip, then put the spoon down.

“It’s good.”

Vivian smiled sweetly. “If you like it, I can make it for you more often.”

Then, as if casually, she added, “Zachary, Grandpa asked me about us today. He said he discussed it with your grandfather, and if you have no objections, we can get engaged first.”

Zachary’s expression darkened. “Vivian, I’ve only ever seen you as a sister.”

“But I don’t see you as a brother,” she countered, her voice trembling slightly. “Zac, all these years… I thought you knew how I felt.”

Her heart pounded anxiously. How could Zachary reject her?

“Vivian, I—”

“This is because of Sarah, isn’t it?” Vivian’s eyes narrowed.

“What?”

“It has to be because of her!” she burst out, her tone turning frantic. “You like Sarah—that’s why you don’t like me!”

Her expression twisted, as if she had finally uncovered the truth.

Whenever she and Zachary were together, the moment Sarah appeared, she ceased to exist in his eyes.

Zachary parted his lips as if to say something, but in the end, he remained silent.

“How’s the factory doing these past few days?” Zachary asked.

Vivian smiled. “With me there, do you really need to worry? Our two factories are right next to each other, and I personally double-check every shipment before it goes out.”

Then, as if casually, she shifted the topic. “But what should I tell your grandfather when he asks?”

She wasn’t making it up—her grandfather and William had been discussing their engagement for days now.

Zachary fell silent for a moment before responding, “Just tell him I’m not considering it for now.”

Vivian’s eyes lit up with hope. “So you mean… you’re thinking about being with me?”

Zachary didn’t explicitly refuse. He didn’t agree either.

Outside the door, Sarah had heard enough. There was no reason for her to stand there any longer.
