Sarah’s voice was firm yet gentle. “That won’t happen. Your mother will only care about you more. And this isn’t your fault. Medicine has advanced so much now… you—”

Tina wiped her tears. “Miss Sanders, do I really still have hope?”

“Of course. Of course, you do,” Sarah reassured her patiently. “Studies show that HIV is no longer the death sentence it once was. With medication, the virus can be controlled.”

Tina let out a bitter laugh. “But what if I can’t afford the medication?”

Sarah shook her head. “You don’t have to worry about that either. Infectious disease clinics in hospitals provide free HIV medication. You can apply for it—it won’t cost you anything.”

Tina’s tense expression eased slightly, but fear still lingered in her eyes. “But… if my mom finds out, she’ll kill me.”

Her voice trembled, on the verge of breaking down again. She was still trapped in the despair that made death seem like her only option.

Sarah slowly walked over and gently reached for Tina’s hand, trying to offer comfort.

But Tina yanked it away abruptly. “No! It’s contagious.”

Sarah met her gaze calmly. “Don’t be afraid, Tina. Just try doing the things on your list, okay?”

She knew Tina had lost all interest in life. What she needed now was a reason to want to live again.

After a moment of hesitation, Tina finally nodded.

Three Days Later…

Just when Sarah thought the crisis had settled, disaster struck.

Outside the gates of Adams University, a crowd had gathered. Two men held up a massive banner that read:

“A UNIVERSITY’S COUNSELOR KILLS STUDENT—MURDER MUST BE AVENGED!”

A middle-aged woman, clad in mourning clothes, wailed hysterically at the entrance, her grief raw and deafening.

The media had swarmed the scene.

After all, the person at the center of the scandal was none other than ‘Sarah Sanders’.

“James Chancer’s ex-wife.”

“Zachary Reynolds’s rumored lover.”

Sarah took a deep breath, steadying herself. “Ma’am, please calm down,” she said in a low, firm voice.

“Calm down? You’re asking me to calm down?” The woman’s voice cracked with rage. “Then tell me—how am I supposed to calm down? My daughter is dead! She died because of you! I should skin you alive, and you dare tell me to calm down?!”

Sarah’s brows furrowed. “What exactly happened?”

The woman let out a sharp, grief-stricken laugh. “You have the audacity to ask me that? Can’t you see it with your own eyes?”

Suddenly, she collapsed onto the ground, her cries piercing the air. “My daughter! You died such a terrible death! And it’s all because of this vicious woman!”

Sarah clenched her fists. “Mrs. Mendes, I don’t understand what you mean. You’re accusing me of causing Tina’s death— on what grounds?”

In front of the entire crowd, Mrs. Mendes yanked something out of her bag and thrust it toward Sarah.

“This is Tina’s suicide note. Since you claim you had nothing to do with her death, why don’t you read it aloud for everyone?”

Sarah took the note with trembling hands.

It was Tina’s handwriting.
