Melvin hadn't been home for the past two days, which made Sydney incredibly anxious. She'd come here to get close to Melvin, but now she couldn't even see him.

Plus, the job Melvin had arranged for her wasn't at headquarters but at a branch office, so she had no chance of running into him.

When Mia and Sarah got home from school, they caught Sydney staring at them.

"What are you looking at?" Mia said with disgust.

"Melvin's so good to you. That necklace he just got at the auction - he had it delivered to you right away," Sydney's voice dripped with jealousy.

Sarah caught her meaning and picked up the necklace from the table. "Yes, it is quite beautiful."

Sydney barely contained her envy, her words dripping with sarcasm. "Who knows what shady tactics you used to get Melvin to treat you so well. People might think you're a couple!"

"Think before you speak," Sarah said coldly.

"Who are you to talk? Sarah, I'd watch yourself if I were you. Did you know the board wants to buy out your shares and kick you out of Sanders Corp for good?" Sydney said with obvious glee.

Sarah paused briefly, then replied, "Whatever the board does has nothing to do with you. Sydney, know your place."

Sydney pointed at her angrily. "Ha! You've got some nerve lecturing me. Worry about yourself - the Pine Mist Island plans leaked because of you. It's caused huge losses for Sanders Corp. You'll have to answer for that. Let's see how long you keep smiling."

She set the files on Professor Letito’s desk and noticed his troubled expression and vacant stare.

"Professor Letito?” she asked softly, remembering he was teaching the next class.

"What is it?" He snapped back to reality as if waking from a nightmare.

Sarah had never seen Professor Letito like this before. In her memory, he'd always been a dedicated, conscientious teacher. They'd worked on research together, and he was always gentle and hardworking.

Whenever she passed by the office, other professors might be chatting or daydreaming, but he was always focused on his work.

This was the first time she'd ever seen him like this.
