Vivian said casually, "The Blancos can't be that broke. Your family can pay your debt - unless they refuse to help. Then you'll have to take the fall alone."

Vivian said quietly, "Shut up. I'm warning you - if you don't have the money in five days, you'll see what happens. Or... there's one small favor. If you help me with it, I might forget about all this."

At Adams University, Sarah thought it was over, but one incident pushed everything to a climax.

The whole school was in chaos. A woman holding a child stood on the roof platform. The child, barely two years old, was crying hysterically.

The platform was right above Professor Letito's teaching building. The stairs to the roof were usually locked - nobody knew how she'd gotten up there.

It was dismissal time. Sarah recognized her immediately. The woman's face was pale - she must be terrified herself, standing up there.

The dean nodded quickly. "Yes, I'm the school's dean. You can tell me anything, but please come down first. We can talk properly in my office."

"No! Henry's been having an affair with one of your female professors. He's cheating - are you going to do anything about it?"
