Zachary finished the soup. "If you're busy, you don't need to check on me."

"I worry when I'm not watching over you," Vivian replied quickly before burying herself back in work.

Zachary fell silent, staring out the window.

Two days later, in a run-down slum, several men forced open a decrepit door. Inside, a man was playing on a battered computer, cursing furiously at his teammates. He pounded on the keyboard with its missing keys, as if trying to smash it in his rage.

Too caught up in the game, he didn't hear them enter until someone roughly yanked off his headphones. Only then did he notice the room full of people.

He looked at their leader in panic, trembling as he spoke. "Troy, you said one week! It's only been two days! After a week, I swear I'll have your money."

Troy glared at him menacingly, motioning for his men to restrain him.

Troy shook his head coldly. “Dan Wisler, you've used up all your chances. How many days have you dragged this out since you first borrowed money? Don't forget, I'm just the muscle doing a job. In this world, you're nothing but a parasite in a cheap apartment. Even if you were some corporate hotshot, if someone wanted you dead, no one would investigate. You think your life's worth something? One million - not a penny less!"

Dan’s shoulders shook violently. Suddenly, an idea struck him. "Troy! I have a son and his mother. If necessary, you can sell them both! They'd fetch over a hundred thousand. Just give me a few more days!"

Troy burst out laughing. “Dan, your woman's a old hag, and she's had a kid - worthless. Besides, we don't do that kind of business. You're something else, thinking of selling your wife and kid when you're broke. I feel dirty just talking to you. Forget about an extension. I want to see the money tomorrow!"
