The reporters admired how Miss Wilson remained as gracious and poised as ever, quickly making way for the car.

Zachary and William got into the black car, which sped away.

Vivian maintained her smile as she handled the press. After the interviews, she even thoughtfully gave each reporter a can of drink.

The rain hadn't let up. Once all the reporters dispersed, Vivian returned to her room and checked her phone - three missed calls, all from Zachary.

She smiled as she called him back.

"Zachary? You've never called this many times before. Must be urgent."

His voice was cold and flat. "I've given you what you wanted. Now return the person I want to see."

"How heartless you are. I'm your fiancée - couldn't you show a little concern for me?"

She pouted. “Oh, how heartless are you? After you and your grandfather left, do you know how long I had to deal with those reporters?"

Zachary remained cold. "You called those reporters yourself. I imagine you enjoyed answering their questions."

"You're right, Zachary. I want the whole world to know about our marriage, to know that I'm your fiancée."

At the Reynolds house, Zachary sat in the darkened living room with a deep sigh.

Mia came out of her room, switched on the light with a snap, and handed him a cup of hot water. "Brother, drink this."

She gave a bitter smile, her voice shaking. “Zach, I just saw the most ridiculous news online. Some reporter claimed you and Vivian are engaged. They even said the ceremony is in a month. It sounded so convincing that if I weren't your sister, I might have believed it. Isn't that absurd?"

She looked at him hopefully, waiting for him to calmly tell her the news was fake, just made up by bored reporters.

But after several minutes of silence, he simply took a cigarette from the table. With a click, the blue flame of his lighter illuminated his face as he lit it.
