"Miss Sanders, this is a family matter. Mind your own business!" Charlie snapped. "She's my wife - I'll do whatever I want with her. If you want to stay here, go lock yourself in your room and don't look or listen. Or I'll beat you too!"

Sarah approached him slowly, completely unfazed. "If you dare, do it now. I want to see if you have the guts to hit me."

Charlie stepped back, humiliated and furious. Of course he wouldn't dare! Sarah was Melvin Sanders' cousin, and the whole factory belonged to her family.

He fell silent as Sarah turned to the battered woman on the ground. "How long are you going to lie there?" she asked, her voice cold. "Are you waiting to be beaten to death? Do you want to spend whatever's left of your life under this man's fists, barely surviving? Or would you rather just die now?"

Something flickered in Mrs. Wesler's eyes - a spark replacing the despair. She looked at Charlie, her gaze complex and searching.

Charlie sensed the shift and grew uneasy. "What are you looking at? Don't you dare look at me like that! Shut your eyes! Have you forgotten who you belong to? When you married me, didn't your mother tell you to follow me?"

Mrs. Wesler suddenly burst into laughter. "I'll never forget what my mother told me on our wedding day. She said to be obedient and support my husband. But what did I get? Years of beatings and curses, without a single kind word. Especially when it came to my child..."

"Why wouldn't I dare?" Mrs. Wesler scoffed. "What else do I have to fear now? Death doesn't scare me, so why should your threats? You've done evil with a clear conscience, and now you're afraid?"

Charlie glanced nervously at Sarah, then turned back to his wife. "If you're not afraid of death, you should at least care about your family, right?"

Mrs. Wesler fell silent but fixed him with a glare of pure hatred. "Hmph. If speaking the truth makes you brave, then what does that make you? If others knew what you've done, you'd be better off dead."
