Charlie shook his head, his face pale, still refusing to admit it.
“It wasn’t me! I don’t know what you’re talking about. Even if that video shows me, so what? How can you be sure I was doing anything wrong? I came in at 2 a.m. to check if the machines could still be fixed. I did it for the good of the factory!”
Sarah let out a cold laugh.
“Wow. That’s the best you could come up with? You really expect me to believe you were being noble at two in the morning? Don’t forget, we’ve got more than just one camera. You think we only set up one? Every step you took was recorded—and more than that, someone saw you. We’ve got video and a witness. You’re not getting out of this.”
Charlie’s face twisted in disbelief. “No way! There was no one there last night—I checked! You could’ve bribed someone just to frame me!”
Sarah’s expression didn’t budge. “If you’re that desperate to keep lying, feel free to tell it to the cops. I’m done listening to your nonsense. Mr. Lambert, call the police. With everything we’ve got on him, this one’s going straight to jail.”
As soon as she said jail, Charlie froze. His tough act collapsed instantly.
“No—no, don’t call the police! Please! I’ll talk, okay? It was me last night! Are you happy now?”
Sarah didn’t even blink. “And the night before that? That was you too, wasn’t it?”
Charlie hesitated for a second, then gave a stiff nod.
“Charlie, have you forgotten who really drugged that drink? Before you talk about what others did to you, maybe reflect on your own disgusting behavior. You beat your wife, sabotaged my roof to collapse my house, and now you’ve destroyed hundreds of thousands in company property. Any one of those could land you in jail. But this? This is criminal damage to corporate assets. I promise you, you’ll rot in prison before you crawl your way out of this.”
Mr. Lambert added, his voice hard, “You know what you’ve done, don’t you? Deliberate destruction of property with major financial loss? Just that alone carries a sentence of up to seven years. Combine that with the rest of your crimes, and you’re looking at at least ten.”
Charlie’s smug face vanished in an instant. He turned ghost white as he stared at Mr. Lambert, barely able to breathe.
He never imagined it would come to this.
