He tried with all his might to hide the concern in his voice. Showing it would lead to endless consequences.

Charlie thought for a long time before answering, "I'm not entirely sure. On the day of the explosion, that woman from the Reynolds apparently had a car accident. But you know, in a place like West Ridge, the chance of having a car accident is maybe one in a thousand. This isn't a big city with busy traffic. You can barely see any cars on most roads, let alone one hitting someone. Yet strangely, she really did have an accident."

Zachary lowered his eyes. He didn't want to hear any more.

This was the very reason he never even got to see her one last time.

"Bro, now that we've found the truth, when can I get my share of the money?"

Charlie looked at Zachary excitedly, already silently fantasizing about what he would do with the money.

But to his surprise, when Zachary looked up again, his eyes were ice-cold. "You're lying."

The calm tone with which he spoke these words made Charlie nervous.

The story he had told was half-truth, half-fiction. The false part deliberately concealed the dirty things he had done, while the true part was that those people really did want to bring everyone down with them.

Charlie's expression faltered. "Bro, what do you mean by that?"

"Charlie, the n-butanol wasn't brought in by the factory director. It was something you wanted to do yourself," Zachary said seriously.

Charlie had never thought he would be exposed as the disgusting factory director. He took out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, lit one, and put it in his mouth.

After just a couple of puffs, Zachary's glare stopped him. That look of contempt made him uncomfortable.

"Bro, I told you all the important details. I didn't hide anything," he said earnestly.

Zachary gave a cold laugh. "Those who know the truth are either dead or have been dealt with, so of course you can say whatever you want."

Walking out of the workshop toward her living quarters, she spotted Zachary crouching by the factory entrance.

"Zachary?" She wasn't sure if it was really him.

The man was hunched in a corner, head buried in his knees, looking wounded.

As if guided by some instinct, she walked over and called his name softly several times.

Finally, Zachary lifted his head. His handsome face was now filled with exhaustion, his eyes slightly red, and his eyebrows drooping. Sarah knew he was experiencing immense pain.

"What's wrong with you?" She couldn't help but ask.

Before she got an answer, he pulled her into his arms. Strangely, the light cedar scent that usually clung to Zachary was gone, replaced by the smell of decay and mold.
