“Sarah, I’m sorry… I couldn’t stop them.”

Sarah turned around. When she saw it was Mia, she smiled and gently tapped Mia’s nose with the back of her hand.

“Silly girl, next time something like this happens, just stay far away, okay? The farther the better.”

But Mia shook her head firmly and, for once, disagreed.

“No way. They were trying to hurt you, Sarah. I had to protect you.”

Sarah couldn’t help but pull her into a hug, blinking hard to push down the sting in her eyes.

Mia, worried that Sarah might be upset, even started patting Sarah’s back gently, like comforting a little kid.

“It’s okay, Sarah. I’m here.”

Sarah finally couldn’t help but laugh. She gently pushed Mia away and said, “In that case, you can help me clean up this mess.”

Mia clapped her hands happily, completely unbothered by the idea of cleaning.

Looking at Mia’s innocent, bright smile, Sarah quietly made a promise to herself — no matter what it took, no matter what the cost — she would protect this smile.

As the two of them cleaned the ruined office together, Mia kept glancing at Sarah, her face showing that she had something to say but didn’t quite know how to start.

Sarah caught her look, raised an eyebrow, and crossed her arms calmly.

“Just say it.”

Mia giggled sheepishly before blurting out, “Sarah… did you go to West Ridge with my brother?”

Sarah paused for a second, then nodded without saying anything.

Mia’s smile grew wider and wider, so bright it was practically glowing. “Does that mean… you and my brother made up?”

This time, Sarah answered without hesitation.

“No.”

Mia let out a little “Oh…” — clearly disappointed — and lowered her head to quietly keep tidying up.

If he wanted to take her down in one shot, Zachary knew he had to wait for the perfect moment — when she least expected it.

James’ always calm and steady expression finally cracked.

“She’s back?” His voice was low, but full of emotion.

The butler nodded. “Yes, sir.”

“Get the car ready,” James ordered.
