Vivian smiled sweetly, though her words were sharp underneath.

“Like you said, I’m Zachary’s fiancée. Of course, I wouldn’t say anything reckless. Out of responsibility, since this contract was signed by both of us, I have an obligation to make sure things are handled properly.”

Her words sounded kind and reasonable on the surface, but everyone in the room could hear the meaning behind them.

Mr. Robertson, who had been quietly watching this back-and-forth, already understood exactly what kind of person Vivian was. But between Zachary and Vivian, it was clear where his loyalties lay — with Vivian.

“Mr. Steven, why don’t we call Mr. Reynolds over?” Mr. Robertson suggested calmly.

Steven’s eyes narrowed slightly.

“Zach…”

But before he could finish, a deep, cold voice rang out from the doorway.

“Mr. Robertson, have you ever thought about the possibility… that these parts aren’t from Reynolds Corporation at all?”

The conference room door swung open.

Zachary walked in slowly, calm and composed, his sharp eyes sweeping across the room.

Vivian’s expression froze.

This man — the one who had vanished for half a month — had finally appeared. He’d spent all that time in West Ridge. God knows what he had been investigating or what he had uncovered.

And worst of all… she hadn’t told Grandpa Wilson about this. If he found out Zachary had been digging into the past, there was no telling how furious he’d be.

“Zachary,” Vivian softened her voice immediately, her eyes filled with false affection. “This wasn’t about targeting Reynolds Corporation. It’s just that since we signed this contract together, I felt responsible for checking on things.”

To outsiders, she looked like nothing more than a gentle woman concerned about her fiancé.

But beneath that tender gaze, her heart was full of ice. She stared hard at Zachary, trying to figure out from his expression what he was thinking.

But Zachary didn’t even spare her a glance.

Instead, he pulled out another document from the folder he brought and handed it to Mr. Robertson.

“Mr. Robertson, please take a look.”

His voice was calm, but sharp as a blade.

“Miss Wilson must have been mistaken. Those parts… aren’t from Reynolds Corporation.”

Vivian, unwilling to back down, leaned forward, bracing herself on his desk as she stared at him.

“Zachary, why were you gone for so long?” she asked, her voice full of displeasure.

“Handling some things,” Zachary replied, his tone flat.

He forced himself to stay calm for now. Before he got to the bottom of everything, he could still sit here and deal with Vivian face-to-face.

But right now, his mind was filled with the things Charlie had told him in West Ridge.

Deciding a person’s life or death in just a few words… The people who ordered it probably didn’t even blink.

And Vivian… Her last name was still Wilson.

Even if she hadn’t been personally involved back then, she was still a Wilson. And after taking over everything from the Wilson family, Zachary didn’t believe for a second that she knew absolutely nothing about what had happened.

If she really did know, and could still stand here talking to him like nothing had happened… still agree to get engaged with him… then just the thought of it made Zachary’s skin crawl.

He didn’t want to say another word to her. But Vivian stubbornly refused to let him ignore her.

“Is it really so hard for you to answer me?” she said, her voice shaking slightly as she leaned closer, bracing herself on the desk.
