The guard at the door was easy to convince. She made up a simple excuse about having a stomachache or needing to see a doctor.

The police still sent someone to follow her to the building entrance. When they arrived, the officer blocked her path. "Ms. Garnett, please go back. Without approval, you can't see anyone except your doctor."

"Not even my husband? My stomach hurts terribly. I need to see my husband to feel at ease," she pleaded.

But the officer wouldn't budge. "Ms. Garnett, please return!"

Just then, the officer received a phone call. After listening for a few moments, the officer stepped aside.

Charlotte walked in confidently, wearing sunglasses with her head held high.

The receptionist greeted her politely, "Miss, who are you here to see? Do you have an appointment?"

Charlotte removed her sunglasses, frowning slightly with an annoyed tone, "I'm here to see your CEO, James Chancer. Do I really need an appointment?"

The receptionist was new and didn't recognize Charlotte. She smiled apologetically, "I'm sorry, miss, but everyone needs an appointment. Or you could call the person you're meeting and ask them to come get you."

Clearly, the receptionist didn't believe Charlotte's claim and thought she was just putting on airs.

Charlotte was well-practiced at acting and could easily tell what the young woman was thinking.

She let out a scornful laugh with a hint of anger in her voice, "Young lady, being professional is good, but I'm your CEO's wife. If you don't believe me, call and confirm it yourself."

Seeing Charlotte's unwavering confidence, the receptionist blinked a few times before responding in the same tone, "Miss, please don't misunderstand. I meant nothing by it. Please wait while I call to confirm."

James had just finished a board meeting. He wanted to expand the business overseas, but was constantly blocked by a group of stubborn people, giving him a headache.

"Mr. Chancer," his secretary approached and said, "Your wife is here. I've arranged for her to wait in the lounge. Would you like to see her?"

James rubbed his temples, feeling even more irritated at hearing Charlotte had arrived. Without a second thought, he said, "Send her away. Tell her I'm busy and don't have time to see her."

The secretary didn't ask why, simply nodded and left.

After returning home without seeing James again, Charlotte locked herself in her room and vented her frustration by smashing things.

When she was completely exhausted, she collapsed on the bed. Feelings of hurt and loneliness washed over her, and tears began to fall uncontrollably.
