A black Cayenne sped like a bolt of fire across the highway bridge. Zachary sat in the back seat, his face ashen. Beside him, Mia anxiously chewed on her index finger.

By the time Zachary noticed something was wrong, she had already bitten her finger until it bled.

Zachary quickly pulled her finger from her mouth and restrained both her hands, saying in a deep voice, "Mia, calm down."

With furrowed brows, he instructed the driver, "Drive faster."

The driver floored the accelerator, and the car shot forward like an arrow released from a bow.

In the heavy silence of the car, only Mia's moans could be heard.

A ringtone broke the strange atmosphere. Zachary answered—it was Steven calling.

“Zach, something's happened to Miss Sanders.” Steven's voice was anxious, suggesting he had called immediately after hearing the news.

Zachary's brow tightened. "What happened?"

"It's Pine Mist Island. A woman ate the hotel's steak and died on the spot. The police are investigating intensively. They found botulinum bacteria in the small piece of steak that remained." Steven quickly explained the situation.

"Botulinum bacteria?" Zachary repeated.

As a newly opened resort hotel, Pine Mist Island would normally be extremely careful about selecting and cooking meat. How could such a major oversight occur?

When Zachary arrived at Pine Mist Island Resort with Mia, the hotel was nearly empty. All the relevant guests had already left, as the botulinum incident was no small matter.

Learning that Sarah had been taken to the police station for questioning, he immediately called Melvin, "Sarah's been taken to the station. With your connections, she should be released on bail. I'll appear to bail Sarah out, but I need another favor from you."

Zachary looked at the still-trembling Mia beside him, pulling down her hand as she was about to bite it again.

Sarah didn't stay at the police station long before being released on bail, but Pine Mist Island was temporarily shut down.

When Melvin came to pick her up, he tried to comfort her, "Sarah, don't worry. Once the truth comes out, the hotel will reopen."

Sarah shook her head, her expression grim. "This isn't so simple. The mastermind behind this isn't even trying to hide. Harbour Crescent Island's revenue has rocketed because of this incident. Vivian making this move isn't surprising, but it was so sudden and unexpected."
