Chapter 185 Politely declined

There was a knock on the door, and a second later, Luke let himself into the ward.

“I found it, Mr. King! Someone tried to kidnap your mother from the sanatorium, and she got hurt when she struggled from her assailants.”

Kidnapping?

That sanatorium belonged to none other than Paul. Nothing had happened all these years, yet the moment news of Marcelo’s apparent recovery leaked out, someone tried to abduct Jessica.

Was Paul behind this?

Or was it Gary?

Or perhaps… Did the two of them join forces?

Anger flickered in Marcelo’s usually indifferent

eyes.

Beside him, Vivian sighed to herself in relief.

Anna had told her that Marcelo had been behaving strangely in the past few days.

Even today, he hadn’t shown up to the company meeting, and provided no reason for his absence. Vivian thought that he must have had a fight with Renee, and figured that he had skipped work to see her.

At first, Vivian had to rack her brains for a plausible reason to draw Marcelo to her. As luck would have it, an incident occurred involving Jessica.

Daniel gave no reaction to her incessant prattling. When she was finally done, he said, “Well, you’ve seen her. Can you go back to Glostin now?”

Susanna batted her eyes at him, her eyelashes fluttering like butterfly wings. She started to act cute and coquettish as she smiled at him.

Daniel didn’t even think twice about palming her face and pushing her away.

Whenever she gave him that look, she had either caused a mess or was about to ask him for a ridiculous favor.

Undeterred, Susanna cried out, “Daniel! I want to study in Bellbanks University!”

Just as he had expected, she was making yet another absurd request.

“Susanna, for goodness‘ sake! You just graduated from university Bellbanks University is a prestigious university that’s quite challenging to gain admission to as a postgraduate student, you know?”

The answer to that was, of course,

Susanna pounced on Daniel and nuzzled against his chest, acting like a spoiled child.

Daniel was over 6 feet tall, while Susanna was only around 5’2. She locked her arms around his waist and held on for dear life.

She always resorted to this kind of methods, with no regard for how it would make the other party feel.

“Susanna, you need to know right now that Renee and Marcelo’s relationship is going well. I’m sure you’re already aware of the previous setup between Marcelo, Vivian and his brother.” Daniel didn’t want her to get involved in other people’s relationships, whether by intent or by accident.

“None of that is any of my business. I only want to support Renee any way I can!” Susanna might have known Vivian since childhood, but she never got along with the other woman.

Besides, Rence didn’t really have to stay with that cold Marcelo. Someone had sent her flowers during class earlier. That meant that she was popular. She had options!

He could already picture the man telling Susanna,” I’ll help you if you and Daniel give me a nephew or a niece.” His sister was no better, either, with her usual mantra of, “If the man is no good, replace him with a better one.”

With a resigned sigh, he said, “Fine. I’ll make the necessary arrangements.” “Thank you!” Susanna beamed.

Howard invited Renee to have lunch with him, but she politely declined. Sarah was waiting for her at their dormitory room. Renee said goodbye to Howard and was about to turn away when a young girl ran up to her and yelled happily, “Renee!”

Before the girl could eagerly throw herself at her, a handsome man grasped her collar and prevented her from lunging forward. As Renee raised her gaze and looked at the man, she was slightly stunned by his appearance.

“Daniel, release me, please,” Susanna protested, her voice a mixture of annoyance and resistance, as his hand firmly grabbed her collar.

“You know, only large dogs pounce on people like that. Are you trying to prove a point?” Daniel, with an exaggerated gesture, motioned for Susanna to walk with more decorum.

It had been a lifelong struggle for her, her penchant for reckless running and frequent tumbles, a trait that seemed unchangeable.
