For three months, Gavin showed up at Britney’s hotel every morning with a bouquet of flowers. Every evening, he waited punctually by the employee entrance for her to get off work.
That million–dollar luxury car was impossible to ignore. Everyone knew that Britney had found herself a wealthy man after being cheated on
The fact that he was young and handsome made it even better.
Her coworkers all said Britney’s luck had turned around–what seemed like a disaster had become a blessing in disguise.
Britney tried explaining to her colleagues that she and Gavin weren’t dating. Still, they acted like they didn’t hear her.
She eventually stopped bothering to explain.
After finishing her shift and briefing the front desk staff about the evening’s priorities, Britney prepared to leave.
She changed clothes in the break room and stepped out. A coworker called out to her, “Ms. Watson, your boyfriend’s waiting for you again.”
Britney managed a professional smile and nodded slightly.
She didn’t bother explaining anymore. Everyone believed what they wanted to believe–there was no point in trying to change their minds.
Britney stepped out through the hotel’s employee entrance and immediately spotted the Rolls–Royce gleaming in the evening sunlight.
Her lips pressed together slightly as she walked toward it in her heels, but a familiar voice stopped her cold. “Britney!”
The voice was too familiar–so familiar that just hearing it triggered a wave of physical revulsion.
Britney didn’t even slow down. She kept walking, but someone grabbed her arm. “Britney!”
She recoiled instantly, as if something filthy had touched her. She jerked away and yanked her arm free.
“Get off me!” Britney pulled out a wet wipe and scrubbed at her arm, disgust written all over her face.
“Britney!” The man frowned at the look of contempt on her face.
“Trash.” Britney spat the word out coldly and turned to leave.
The man glanced at the luxury car in the distance but didn’t follow.
When Britney was still ten meters from the vehicle, the driver got out and opened her door with practiced efficiency. “Ms. Watson, please.”
“Thanks,” Britney said.
“It’s my job, Ms. Watson.”
Britney slipped into the car.
She turned to look at Gavin, who was flipping through documents beside her. “Gavin, since you’re so busy, you don’t need to pick me up. My place is close by. I can walk home.”
Besides, their relationship hadn’t reached the point where she should expect him to drive her around.
She had refused before, but her refusals never worked.
Gavin closed the file and looked up at her “I’m not busy.”

Chapter 787
Britney thought, ‘If you’re not busy, why are you reading documents in the car?
Gavin checked his watch. “You’re an hour and seven minutes late today.”
“Yeah, it was a busy day,” Britney said.
As a front desk manager, she couldn’t clock out like regular employees. Overtime was just part of the job.
Gavin studied her pretty face quietly. “Maybe you should consider finding something easier.”
Britney shook her head. Work was all she had left in her life now. Her parents were gone. Her only close friend had hooked up with her ex boyfriend.
She was utterly alone. Life would be unbearably empty if she didn’t fill her time with work. At least at work, she felt like she mattered.
Gavin didn’t push the matter. He simply suggested and asked, “What would you like for dinner?”
Britney shook her head. “I’m good. Just take me home.”
“Alright.” Gavin nodded.
Britney’s place was close to the hotel, just two blocks away in an older residential complex. The neighbors had grown used to seeing luxury cars drop her off.
Britney pushed open the car door and stepped out. “Thanks for the ride, Gavin.”
“Don’t mention it.” Gavin got out as well.
Everything about him screamed expensive–the luxury brands, the watch on his wrist worth enough to buy several apartments in this complex. His polished elegance clashed completely with the lived–in atmosphere of the neighborhood.
Britney waved goodbye and turned to walk into the complex. Gavin followed right behind her.
“Your new boyfriend’s really handsome, Britney,” a neighbor called out.
Britney turned around to find that Gavin had already followed her into the complex. “Gavin, what are you—”
“Wait, you weren’t inviting me up to your place?” Gavin asked back.
Britney was speechless.
