The entire lobby fell silent when Gavin’s words hit the air. Everyone’s eyes darted between Britney and Gavin, taking in the drama unfolding before mem.

The female employees stared at Britney with undisguised envy, thinking, ‘Ms. Watson sure got lucky–getting cheated on and then landing herself a oc handsome catch like that.‘

The hotel executives watched Britney with calculating expressions. She was about to become the boss‘ wife, after all. They’d need to stay on her good side from now on.

Britney herself stared at Gavin in shock, her eyes widening. ‘He’s pursuing me with marriage in mind?”

Gavin had mentioned marriage before, but she’d assumed he was just talking casually, like when she’d had that moment of madness and followed him back to the Yates family mansion, practically throwing herself at him.

“Give me a break.” Soren’s face twisted with panic when he saw Britney’s expression. He knew damn well he couldn’t compete with Gavin. Any woman would choose Gavin over him without a second thought.

But not Britney. He and Britney had been together for two whole years, close to getting engaged. She couldn’t just fall for someone else now.

Fighting down his rising panic, Soren forced a mocking smile. “Men know men. You’re saying all this noble crap because you haven’t gotten her yet. Once you do? You’ll be bored in a few months!”

His words carried a deliberate sting of humiliation.

Britney’s face went white with rage at his words.

“Throw him out!” Gavin frowned.

The security team had been standing by, ready. At his command, the head of security stepped forward and grabbed Soren by the arms.

“Let go! Get your hands off me, you-” Soren struggled and shouted as they dragged him away.

The security clamped a hand over his mouth to silence him. They tossed Soren out and warned him never to set foot near the hotel again.

Soren spat angrily on the sidewalk before storming off.

The lobby fell quiet again.

Gavin looked at Britney quietly and said, “I’m not like what he said.”

Britney stared at him, speechless. It took her a moment to realize Gavin was explaining himself after Soren’s comments. With all the hotel management standing around, Britney didn’t know what to say.

Chris, ever the diplomat, smiled and said, “Ms. Watson, you’ve been with the hotel for years and know it inside out. Why don’t you show Mr. Yates

around?”

Gavin waved his hand dismissively. “No need. Let her rest.”

Chris chuckled, “Of course. Rest up, Ms. Watson.”

Britney remained silent as Gavin left with his entourage to tour the hotel.

“Ms. Watson, Mr. Yates is so handsome and sweet. I’m so jealous,” one of the front desk girls said, looking at Britney with envy.

Britney cleared her throat. “Focus on work, not gossip.”

She laughed, “Ms. Watson’s blushing!”

Gavin spent the entire morning at the hotel. Since he’d acquired the hotel for Britney’s sake, he wouldn’t be investing too much energy into running it personally.

After Gavin left, Chris approached Britney with a cheerful grin.

He said, “Ms. Watson, we’re all counting on you now. Put in a good word for us with Mr. Yates, will you?”

Britney looked startled and quickly replied, “Chris, you’re giving me too much credit.”

Chris continued, “Ms. Watson, I can tell Mr. Yates has feelings for you. You should seize this opportunity—he’s way better than that loser ex–boyfriend of yours.”

Britney pressed her lips together slightly. She knew Gavin was a good man. But being good now didn’t guarantee he’d stay that way forever.
