When the call ended, Gavin was on the verge of a complete breakdown. “She was crying,” he said, his brows furrowed with

worry.

“Britney cried because she cares about you and she’s worried,” Cameron said.

Bradley nodded. “Gavin, it looks like Britney really does have feelings for you.”

Gavin’s eyes lit up for a moment. He grabbed the phone from Cameron’s hand and headed for the door.

“Gavin!” Cameron caught his arm. “Don’t blow this now. We need to see this through to the end.”

Cameron took the phone back from Gavin. “Come on, let’s go to Crownhill Hospital.”

Britney ran out of her apartment complex and jumped into a taxi. Only then did she realize she was still wearing her pajamas and slippers, with nothing but her phone in her hand. But she couldn’t worry about that right now.

The driver saw her tear–streaked face and noticed they were heading to a hospital, so he stepped on the gas and drove as

fast as he could.

When Britney reached the hospital entrance, she quickly paid the driver and rushed inside.

One of her slippers fell off as she ran, but she didn’t stop to pick it up. She ran straight to the ICU on the third floor.

Cameron and Bradley were standing guard outside when they heard footsteps. They turned to see Britney looking completely disheveled, wearing only one slipper. They froze for a moment.

Then, they looked at each other and shared a knowing smile. ‘Britney cares about Gavin way more than we thought,‘ they both thought.

“Cameron! Where’s Gavin? Where is he?” Britney stumbled toward Cameron and Bradley, her voice shaking.

Since she’d stayed with the Yates family before, she naturally knew Cameron.

“Cam?” A familiar voice came from behind them.

“Gavin?” Cameron’s face filled with shock. She pointed at the ICU room, then at Gavin. “How are you even here?”

Britney spun around at the sound of his voice and saw him standing there.

Gavin was wearing a hospital gown with one arm in a sling, but he looked okay overall; he was just a bit confused.

Britney was wearing pajamas and missing a shoe. She’d run straight into his arms. Her face was streaked with tears and

‘She actually cares about me,‘ Gavin thought. ‘She was really worried.’

Along with the joy flooding through him, guilt immediately crept into Gavin’s heart. She’d been so worried about him, but he’d lied to her–deliberately deceived her.

“Gavin!” Britney’s arms tightened around his waist as she felt his genuine warmth against her, and the tears poured down her face again.

“Britney, I’m okay,” Gavin said softly.

Cameron and Bradley had both rushed over to Gavin’s side.

Cameron’s face lit up with relief. “Gavin! Thank goodness you’re alright. But I got a call saying you were still in the ICU fighting for your life?”

“The hospital mixed up identities,” Gavin explained. “They were treating someone else, not me. I’m fine. I specifically told them not to contact my family because I didn’t want everyone to worry. Did the hospital call you guys?”

Cameron nodded. “Yeah, and they gave me your wallet and phone too.”

“Gavin, what happened to your hand?” Bradley asked.

That was when Britney finally snapped back to reality. She quickly let go of Gavin and grabbed his other arm, tears streaming down her face. “Gavin, your hand-”
