Chapter 168
Alcee watched Kylen tighten up, his fists clenched at his sides, as Bastiano walked to Karolos and shook his hand.
“What is happening?” Bastiano looked at his sister.
“Alcee and Torq were sharing my story with a stranger,” Genevra called them both out and Alcee wrinkled her nose feeling the sting of the reprimand.
“I’m sorry Genevra. I tend to overshare when I’m overstimulated, and I’m do apologize.”
“It’s okay this time. I forgive you. It’s not like this family,” she waved around the room, “hasn’t been telling everyone your story too.” Genevra looked at Bastiano, “anyway, Alcee mentioned I wanted to set up an auction like she did. Mr. Pavlidis agreed to be my buyer to circumvent the auction process.”
“More than a buyer,” Torq called out as he noted his friend’s brows meet in the middle, “he put marriage on the table, fifty million and what was he said, Alcee,” but looked right at Kylen while he said it, “he’d spoil her rotten for the rest of her life.”
Bastiano looked at Genevra,
This is what
want?”
“Yes. Why not? That’s a lot of
a farm. I’m thrilled with the oney. He doesn’t seem any worse than the three of you,” she made faces at Torq and Tito, “and he doesn’t live on
arrangement. He doesn’t even have a mistress or kids yet.”
Bastiano looked at Kylen, “can you make a better offer to her?”
Kylen stared in disbelief, “you want me to purchase your sister?”
“No. I’m asking you if you can do better than Mr. Pavlidis who is going to keep my little sister in a life of luxury and spoil her rotten. He has the means to keep her safe and dressed in those weird fancy clothes she likes. I know there is money
in your
bank accounts.”
“I won’t buy your sister, Bastiano and it’s insulting you think I would.”
“I was thinking,” Bastiano said bluntly, “that earlier today you were quite upset about the way she was dressed and about her going downstairs to the IT department with all the guys down there. It led me to believe perhaps you feel things for my sister.”
“She’s twenty–one, fifteen years younger than me. No.
“Then Mr. Pavlidis, if this is what my sister wants, then I offer no objection, not like it would matter if I did. While I’ve always been protective of my sister, it’s mostly because she tends to make stupid choices and we are forced to save her ass.”
“That’s not true!” Genevra argued and then shrugged, “maybe a little true.”
Karolos wrapped an arm around her shoulder and pulled her to his side, “A little trouble makes life interesting. We can make trouble together.”
“I like your accent,” Genevra batted her eyelashes as her hand moved around his waist to hug him back and then she boldly touched his flat abdomen. “You have muscles.”
“As I said, I swim in the sea every day I am home. I like sailing. I like the outdoors.”
“I don’t do a lot of physical activity.”
“You will.”
The double entendre made Kylen hiss and Alcee chortle.
That’s not true, Genevra. You do yoga and you dance. You picked up the choreography from WAP in minutes. You can even touch your toes to the back of your head.”
Kylen stormed out of the office and Bastiano snorted, “you snooze, you lose, idiot. I love that man like a brother but if he thinks I’m not going to put my sister’s best interests ahead of his temper tantrums he’s a fool. I deliberately put her in his house to make him take action and face his feelings and instead he’s too caught up in guilt. My sister needs a man who can stand up to her and for her, not a coward.” He gave an impatient

sigh, “as I said, Mr. Pavlidis, I don’t see any reason to object, but it is entirely my sister’s decision.”
“It’s what I want, Bastiano. I grew to love Alcee and the girls, but I don’t love this city. I don’t want to work as an assistant for Torq. It’s not the life I want for myself.”
“You want the glam and the glitz,” Bastiano nodded when she gave a hapless shrug, “you’ve always been the little fashionista. I remember you stealing mom’s only lipstick when you five and saying you were going to be the prettiest. You definitely did grow into the prettiest,” he pulled her away from Karolos‘ arms and into a hug where he kissed her forehead. “You are the biggest pain in my ass, little sister but I do love you. If this is what you want, then take it.”
“Thank you.”
“You’re sure about Kylen though?”
“Look, the rest of this little family found love in New York and maybe, for a moment, I wanted to be part of it too but my brother, my big brother who has always protected me, has taught me never to let anyone give me less than I deserve. I won’t beg a man for his love. I’m worth so much more than this.”
Alcee moved to stand with Torq and slipped under his arm, wrapping her arms around his waist and resting her head to his chest.
“Genevra, I’m learning so much from you.” Alcee watched the woman’s startled expression. “There is so much value in being authentically yourself and I admire this about you. We
