“He’s feeling guilty because he used the age difference.”

“He constantly said the only reason an older man goes with a woman fifteen years younger is the sex.”

“He is in this regard; I can’t deny it. I’ve seen him watching you and I and Tito and Amal and he’s been doing a lot of thinking but it’s a lot of thinking too late. Genevra is a decisive woman. She isn’t the type to wait for some man to get his head out of his ass. He’s not in love with her. She’s not in love with him but, if he weren’t so wrapped up in his guilt, I think they could be good together but how could he go to his family and present Genevra as his partner when she’s so much younger than him after what he did to his sister.”

“I wonder if Genevra knows this.”

“I don’t know. Bastiano might have told her but regardless, he made a choice. He’ll need to live with it. Genevra is going to be fine. I asked my team, not Kylen, to do a deep dive into Pavlidis. If anything pops up we can intervene but I’m of the opinion, he’ll be good to her. He’s like her from what I can see. They’ll be one of those couples fifty years from now deeply in love. She’ll be spoiled rotten, and he’ll reap the rewards. She’s a passionate little thing, though I’m not interested in it, but she has fire in her. It’s a good match.”

“I saw the way he looked at her when she walked in the room. That man was immediately at attention.”

Torq laughed, “the way he leaned forward and rested his elbows on his knees? I’ve taken the same pose multiple times when you walk into a room. He was hiding his boner.”

Alcee smacked his arm, “very funny.”

“I’m dead serious. If he makes it to their wedding night, I’ll be amazed. You’ll need to keep me posted because I’m sure she’ll spill all the gory details, and I really want to rub it Kylen’s face.”

“Why?”

“Because he’s a judgmental fuck. Looking down his nose at relationships sporting large age differences.”

“His heart was in the right place with his sister,” she shrugged. “I wish my family gave a shit the way he and his father did. I don’t agree with his mentality on the age thing,” she kissed his cheek, “for obvious reasons, but I understand his concern for his sister. She’s already lost one great love and if there was a risk this man would hurt her, then she deserved to know the truth. For me, I find it telling he didn’t reveal his past to her.”

“He said he wanted to but never knew how to broach the conversation.”

“Coward.” Alcee grunted. She felt Torq squeeze her to his chest and the shaking of his chest as he laughed at her displeasure.

“My love, you are perfect for me.” He kissed her temple, the feel of his smile on her skin making her smile too.

“I know.” She took a breath, “I know you said there are lots of things to do today and you’re very busy, but I need a favor.”

“Name it.”

“Just like that?”

“Always like that. I could be in a board meeting with a billion dollar on the table Alcee and you simply need to tell me what you want, and I’ll make it happen.*

“I want to go back to the deli.”

His head pulled back in surprise. “What?”

“I want to go with our team. I want to go there on my terms, our terms. I want to go in there, surprise them and then set some rules and

They will get this one pass but there will be no others, and I want them to know if I put my family, my husband, and my son, ahead of them. They will not get second chances.”

“You want to do this now?”

“I want to do it while they are still reeling from the possibility of pissing off the head of a Greek mafia family. They misled Karolos.”

“I agree with Karolos‘ perspective. Your mother has them all convinced you are here against your will. She has been in their ear. I don’t think it occurred to her you were happy with how things turned out.”

“I am happy. This is the best–case situation for me, Torq. I never dreamed the son of my father was the man I was meant to marry. I am thrilled with our life. It’s going to have ups and downs as we learn about each other, but I know you mean to be good to us.

“I will always be good to you.” He dug his phone out and called Tito. “Get a team together. We’re going back to the deli. My wife has things she wants to say on her own terms and we’re going with her.”
