Chapter 176
She groaned when they were interrupted by Lorita. “No groom is supposed to be near the bride on the morning of her wedding.”
“I came to ask if she wanted her brother there. She did. I’ve invited him. He’s probably sweating now. A last–minute invitation. He’s probably pacing the floors trying to decide if it’s an insult to be invited so late or if Alcee even truly wants him there.”
The diabolical grin on his face made Alcee feel a lot better about the invitation. She’d not considered it like this. He was right. Mercurio was likely pacing. If he came, it meant he was dancing to their tune. If word got out he was invited, regardless of timing and he didn’t show up, then it looked like he was breaking ties with Alcee and Lozano completely and gave the feeling of animosity. He was probably freaking out. She almost hopped up and down feeling deep satisfaction.
She looked at Torquato and decided she was marrying a genius. Her mind was pulled back to the present though as Lorita was yanking on his arm to get him away from her.
“You weren’t talking to her when I came in. Your lips are all over her. Get out of here.” Lorita bellowed out the door, “Mama! I told you he snuck down here. He’s in here trying to see her in her wedding dress.”
The echo of several pairs of high–heeled clad feet scampering down the hall made Alcee grin. The reinforcements were here.
Torq evaded his sisters grip and picked Alcee up and kissed her mouth possessively, “I changed my mind. I don’t want all these people between us. Let’s run away together. You me and Ant. We’ll live on my island and shirk responsibilities and create a little commune of our own babies.”
She giggled as he kept his back to the door and peppered her face with kisses.
“Say yes, Alcee,” he nuzzled her neck while she squealed with laughter at the way he’d picked her up like she was the size of a dolly to hold up against his chest. “I’ll fight my way out of this room, take you away and we’ll exile ourselves.”
She snuggled into his embrace her around his neck as his mother and sister tried to free her from his grasp and get him out of the room. He was barely budging, not needing to fight them off at all, he was so strong, and it dawned on her she was currently in the safest place in the world.
“You brute,” Brunella was arguing, “put her down. We need to finish getting her into her dress and you’re not supposed to be here. You were supposed to be picking up your brother.”
“Sent Tito.” He was staring into Alcee’s eyes barely listening to his mother and sister’s words.
Alcee noted Susana and Amal were barely helping the women at all. She looked over his shoulder to see them grinning at the scene.
She looked back into his eyes and smiled, cupping her palms around his cheeks, “Mama is angry enough to get Cicciu I think.”
“He might shoot me.” Torq made wide eyes. “I’ll take the bullet though, if for nothing but to die in your arms.”
“Oh, my goodness you’re a cheesy mess,” she threw her head back and laughed. The action gave him access to the creamy hued column of her neck, and he latched onto it. She squealed.
“Don’t you dare give her a hickey before the wedding!”
Lorita was pounding on his back with fists and Brunella was cursing every word she knew in Italian. Amal and Susana were now giggling fools, holding one another up as Alcee’s feet dangled helplessly in the air while Torq was naughty.
He pulled his lips away from her neck and examined his handy work. “We should tattoo my mark on you.”
“I vote no.” she was out of breath from laughing but also incredibly aroused in a roomful of people, her face flushed and her body responding to his kisses. “No tattoos on my skin.”
“I’m marked with your insignia.“.
She frowned, “what?”
“it’s what we did last night for our bachelor party,” he was beaming at her. “I’ll show you later, but I got your name tattooed on my arm. Ant’s too but yours is there and I put your scar on me,
“You’re insane, You tattooed my scar on your body? Where?”
