Charles laughed wildly, blood streaming from his nose, smearing across his twisted grin.

"You think this is over, Alex? You're gonna beg for mercy when I'm through with you!"

A sudden wail of sirens cut through the air as a patrol car screeched to a stop just inches from Alex, tires skidding and gravel exploding around his feet.

A stocky officer lumbered out, swaggering towards him.

"Heard you couldn't keep your fists to yourself," he sneered. "Hands behind your back—now."

Alex met Charles' eyes and understood instantly. This bastard had planned it meticulously, baiting him into losing control, a setup that had these crooked cops waiting in the wings.

"You heard him!" barked another officer, stepping closer.

"Turn around, hands behind your back!"

Josephine rushed forward, panic twisting her face. "Are you blind? This lunatic slaughtered our pets—look at what's left of them!"

A smirk spread across the officer’s greasy face.

"Yeah, we see exactly what's here. Looks like someone went psycho on their animals. Guess we found our culprit."

Josephine exploded, voice cracking in fury.

"Are you insane? I'm the victim! Someone butchered my pets, and you're blaming me?"

The cop stepped forward, cuffs jangling ominously.

"Sweetheart, most of the time, the killer’s right under our noses. You're under arrest for animal cruelty."

Josephine screamed, twisting violently as cold metal bit into her wrists.

"You pathetic scum! We’re the real victims here!"

Ignoring her protests, the officers shoved Alex and Josephine roughly into the squad car.

Josephine pounded the glass, her voice cracking with fury.

“Are you even listening? You should’ve checked before dragging us in!”

“Keep it together,” Alex said under his breath, eyes locked straight ahead. “This won’t stick. They’re targeting us.”

“They’ve got nothing!” Josephine shot back, her voice raw with disbelief.

The cop driving let out a cold, mocking laugh and glanced back through the metal cage.

"Nothing? Charles already filed assault charges. You'll be rotting in a cell for at least twenty-four hours, tough guy."

At the station, Alex demanded, voice ice-cold, "I want my lawyer. Immediately."

The officer chuckled dismissively, tossing paperwork onto a cluttered desk.

"Maybe after your mandatory sleepover. Twenty-four hours first, then maybe a call."

Josephine snapped, voice raw with indignation, "That's illegal! We have rights, you corrupt—"

"Rights?" The cop leaned closer, his foul breath heavy with arrogance. "In here, princess, we make the rules."

With cruel laughter echoing behind them, Alex and Josephine were thrown into a dim, filthy cell.

Josephine paced like a caged animal, eyes blazing. "That bastard set us up! He killed our animals, bought off these corrupt pigs—"

Alex sat silently, eyes closed, mind already tracing the positions of every officer, feeling their heartbeats, sensing their distracted minds.

His breathing slowed, becoming deliberate and measured, until finally, eyes snapping open, he stood up, composed and focused.

"Time to go," he announced quietly, determination etched into his features.

Josephine stopped pacing, staring at him incredulously. "How the hell—"

He raised his hand, concentrating fiercely.

There was a subtle click, barely audible, and the lock yielded to an invisible force. The cell door swung gently open.

“They didn’t even bother locking it properly,” Alex said coolly. “Arrogance makes people sloppy.”

Josephine blinked, momentarily frozen, before understanding flooded her expression.

She nodded sharply, fear morphing into fierce resolve.

"From here," Alex instructed calmly, "walk like nothing happened. Confidence, Jo—no hesitation."

She steadied herself, exhaling deeply. "Got it."

He opened the door leading into the hallway, stepping forward as if they belonged there.

Two officers stood nearby, deep in idle conversation, oblivious to their presence.

Alex moved deliberately, steps steady and sure, Josephine at his side, her breathing controlled despite the wild rush of adrenaline.

He leaned toward her, voice low and intense. "Keep moving, eyes straight ahead. They won't even notice us."

With every confident step down the hallway, the officers continued talking, eyes glazed, voices distant.
