Chapter 20

The next morning, I’m up early getting ready for sparring class. I jog down the hallway to the girls‘ section and knock on Tiana’s door. I expected to wait a few minutes while she made her way to the door, but it opens quickly and Tiana is standing there looking much better than she did last

night.

“How are you feeling?” I ask her.

“Way better!” she says. “If I don’t get clearance to come back to classes tomorrow, I’m going to be pissed!”

It’s such a typical thing for T to say that I grin at her. “Ready for breakfast?”

“Are you kidding? Hell yeah! I need to keep my strength up.” she says, stepping into the hallway and closing her door. “Let’s go!”

When we get to breakfast, we sit with our friends, but Nicholas can’t keep his mouth shut.

“So, did you get the inside scoop from your girlfriend, Shane?”

“Shut the fuck up, Nicky. Unless you want me to break your nose again,” I growl.

“You broke his nose?” Tiana asks me.

“It was awesome!” Cole says, grinning. I smile. It feels good to have friends. “Crybaby Nicky whined all the way to the medical center.”

“Is that what I heard? I thought someone was dying. You made all that noise for a broken nose?” Tiana asks. Since I know that she was knocked out, I know she didn’t hear a thing so she’s just taunting in the way she does.

“Shut up,” he growls.

“Awww, what’s the matter, Nicky,” I ask. “Are you afraid we’ve all got the upper hand now? Why in the fuck would Sebastiana tell anyone about The Beast? She cracked three ribs and she’s just going to tell the rest of us what she learned so we can get through it faster than her? What are you, stupid?”

He lunges for me, but he’s snatched out of his seat.

“Didn’t learn your lesson yesterday, young Alpha?” Alpha Dane growls.

“I

guess you’ll be first on The Beast today, Nicholas,” Alpha Ryan says.

“You can’t make me,” Nicholas snarls.

“You’re absolutely right. We can’t. But we can toss your ass out of the Academy. Your choice,” Alpha Jackson growls.

Nicholas looks around, realizing that all five instructors are here watching.

He jerks out of Alpha Dane’s grasp. “Fine, I’ll go first.”

“Good choice.” Alpha Dane says. “Let’s get going everyone. We have a busy morning in sparring class!”

“Are you ready, T?” I ask her, grabbing my pancakes and wrapping my eggs inside so I can finish eating on the way out to the field.

“I was born ready, Shane,” she says, smiling.

Yeah, she probably was.

Sebastiana

I don’t care that I’m still sore this morning. I don’t care that I have three cracked ribs. Okay, I do care. But it’s not going to stop me from sitting in on sparring class today and watching Nicholas get is ass handed to him on The Beast.

I swear if he makes it farther than level four, I’m going to scream.

“Did you want to tell me about punching Nicholas and breaking his nose?” I ask Shane as we walk. I’m positive it has to do with me, but he didn’t mention anything about it yesterday.

“Nah. Water under the bridge,” he says. He’s grinning, but it doesn’t quite meet his eyes, which lets me know that Nicky, as Shane and now Cole call him, still thinks I have an advantage over him and the others. How he can think that when I spent the afternoon in the infirmary yesterday is beyond me. But I know that some people are easily intimidated and apparently, he’s one of them. Personally, I think that’s a terrible attribute in an Alpha. Alphas should be confident and strong, the leaders of their pack, not intimidated by others.

Chapter 21

“Alpha Sebastiana,” Alpha Ezra says as we walk out.

“Yes, Alpha.”

“You know you are not allowed to participate in sparring today,” he says.

“I’m aware, Alpha Ezra. But I can watch, right?” I ask.

“Off to the side, please, and no participating.”

“Yes, Alpha,” I say, before saying goodbye to Shane and going to stand on the sidelines with Alpha Ezra, Alpha Benjamin, and Alpha Jackson.

“How are you feeling. Sebi?” Alpha Jackson asks quietly when I come to stand beside them.

“I’m better today, Jacks, thanks.” I say, just as quietly.

“Good. Go to the infirmary tomorrow morning before breakfast. If you get the clean bill of health, you can join again tomorrow.”

“Thanks for the tip.” I say, grinning.

“What’s the bet?” Alpha Benjamin asks.

I frown, not sure what he means.

“I’m betting it’s you or me, since we’re the oldest and he’ll get no farther than level two,” Alpha Ezra says to Alpha Benjamin.

“No way I’m taking that bet,” Jackson says.

“Me either.” Alpha Benjamin says. Then, the three of them surprise me by looking at me.

“Me?” I ask, then turn my attention to Nicholas, assessing what I know about him. “He’ll choose Alpha Benjamin, and he won’t get past level one. He’s used to being strong because he’s an Alpha. He’s not ripped liked Shane, Cole, or Justin, or any of you for that matter,” I say.

Jackson grins. “Damn it’s fun having you here, Sebi. Although, next time, think before you act,” he says, meaning level four on The Beast.

“Alpha Nicholas, you’re our first contestant this fine morning,” Dane says, taunting Nicholas. I’m not sure if that’s normal, or if it’s related to Nicholas acting like a shit towards me and Dane getting retribution. I wouldn’t necessarily mind, but I don’t want him risking his job for me. “Pick
