Chapter 24: Leonardo’s POV
I finish at the doctors with Charlotte feeling successful as they would be doing her surgery in just a few weeks. Charlotte would be walking again. The doctor had promised that. And with that, I’d be able to focus on fixing things with Claire. I get to the car to prepare to assist Charlotte and ready to leave. I check my phone and I see I have a missed call from Claire. She didn’t leave a voicemail
though. I then see a missed call and a voicemail
from an unknown number. I listen to the voicemail
in horror.
“Hey Leo, um it’s Jordan. I know I’m the last person that should be calling you but I took Claire to the hospital and it’s not looking so good. She’s unconscious right now and I didn’t know who to call. Something bad has happened to her. Give her a call when you get this message.”
I drop the phone momentarily and scramble to pick it up. I call my driver and give him directions to pick up Charlotte. There was only I could do both and get to Claire in time.
“Leo, where are you going?” I hear Charlotte ask innocently. She looked confused by my discretion.
“Claire’s been in an accident. My driver will take you home. I have to go.” I rush to get in my car and turn it on — fumbling the keys as my hands shake.

I drive frantically until reach the hospital, not even bothering to park. I pull over and throw the keys at the standing valet giving my name and run inside. I reach the desk where the nurse would tell me where my wife is.
“Richardson. Claire Richardson. Where is she?!”
The nurse looks shocked.
“Oh, Mr. Richardson. I’ll print you a visitors pass and take you back myself.” She prints the visitors pass and adheres it to my shirt as she directs me through the emergency ward. My mind is at a frenzy. Was Claire going to be alright? Whoever
hurt her is going to pay. I try to collect myself as she stops just outside a hospital room door and gives me a look that said a thousand words.
