Mr. Maverick didn't say a word. Instead, he turned his attention to the car window, spotting another SUV cruising right alongside theirs. He paused for a moment.

The other car had its rear window rolled down, and he could make out a silhouette inside.

After a quick glance, Mr. Maverick looked away, his fingers idly twisting together before he finally responded to the survey expert's earlier remark. "The underground chamber's collapsed. Whether there was a meteorite or not doesn't matter anymore."

The survey expert paused, sensing there was more to Mr. Maverick's words than what was on the surface.

Mirabella finished checking James's shoulder wound, feeling a wave of unease. She rested her hand on the rolled-down window frame, letting the breeze cool her face.

A smile crept onto her face, and the last of her unease disappeared.
